Thanks though for your comment because it made me revisit the words to this song and see that there was something to it that would spark interest for some, and helps me understand what Cave is about beyond his usual fake stagecraft, that maybe there's more artistry to him than I thought, though beyond one or two songs I doubt I could get past his dreary musical approach, and his hideous subject matters.

Nevermind that I'm a musician, I must not know anything about music then.

I find his guitar playing trite and repetitive. He has one tone, and though it's a GOOD tone... come on. Variety is nice... even a little.

His solos have a formula to them IMHO, I just don't feel like he has progressed much from when he WAS innovative in, what, 1970?

Sorry, no offense...

Now now girls. At the end of the day - his bank account, record sales, sold out gigs speaks volumes. The man is a f***** musical great, FACT. By the way, I can't play the guitar - is that why he sold awesome to me!

There is as much difference between Mexican and Cuban music, as between Cesaria Evora and REM musical genres.

None of the members of the Buena Vista Social Club - who are/were all Cuba citizens - ever seeked the "privilege" to immigrate in the US. They used to play their music from La Habana, Cuba with the inspiration they probably could not get if they were in the US as immigrants - legal or not - and working by the American show business commercial rules. They were approached by Ry Cooder several years ago and before some eminent members passed away. They organized an international tour that included the Madison Square Garden and recorded several albums of great musical interest. Worth going to your local public library and dig in their rarities.

There are several web sites that account for this musical adventure, among them Ry Cooder's website.

Do you feel a little more more educated?

I had the privilege of seeing Ibrahim Ferrer perform a month before he died. He had such dignity for a man from a tough background and the performance was excellent. The music was very much Cuban, certainly not Mexican. A little further education. BVSC won a grammy. They were expected to be at the wards to collect in person but were denied US visas so Ry Cooder collected on their behalf. What a shame and a disgrace. Imagine their popularity if they were allow the freedom to tour and perform many years sooner.
