Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares For Me (Mar 31, 2008 - 19:06) | Dragonfly_Launch wrote: Someone gave this a 2?
Good God.
Bill should be able to hunt them down and electronically send them a viral greeting and a binomial goodbye.
Yeah, and the goodbye better be binomial, none of that monomial crap!

gotta luv the odd-numbered beat, tho!
LOL
Man, I was just thinking that. Song doesn't quite work when you replace the words golden brown with heroin. Funny how connotations change the feel so much, when both are talking about the same thing.

Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper (Mar 23, 2008 - 09:06) | EssexTex wrote: Don't listen to them, to be complacent as far as the reaper's concerned is foolish...
It worked pretty well for The Stand.

Interpol - Rest My Chemistry (Mar 11, 2008 - 17:24) | Lonestar wrote: 'You look so young,

Truly inspired writing.
Lyrics were never Interpol's strong suit.

That's funny, when I was in highschool the café my friends and I went to played this song, along with other Thievery Corp. songs, all the time. Must be a café thing.

I like Yoko's quote
"I see that this is the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe."
This is basically how it would go:
"Hi"
+400years
"Hello"
+400years
"We're from Earth."

Okkervil River - A Girl In Port (Feb 19, 2008 - 20:34) | joeychick wrote: This song is at least 4 times better than their other song, "Our Life Is Not A Movie Or Maybe."
Let's see, so that's 1 x 4 = 4. Yup.
Yeah, but you said at least 4 times better (up to 10 times better), so you really could have given it anywhere from 4-10, and the chances of a 4 should be 1/7. 7 is the median, and that would give you a reasonable rating of the song, good job!
|
Rickie Lee Jones - Young Blood (Feb 12, 2008 - 17:51) | Hah, awesome, an old comment of mine. I suppose it is cool to hear Tom and Ricki back to back, but its generally not a combo that you would associate as being near each other. Only on RP do you go from Tom Waits to Rickie Lee Jones, right?
Steely Dan next?
|
Eluvium - Prelude For Time Feelers (Feb 11, 2008 - 01:56) | I like Accidental Memory in the Case of Death a whole lot. If you like this song, get the other album, sounds weird to get a different album from the one that the song you like is on, but trust me.

Foo Fighters - Everlong (acoustic) (Feb 09, 2008 - 19:46) | I was about to say, "Who copied Everlong?" then Dave's voice came in. I know of another acoustic version I like much better, I think it came from Howard Stern's show.

Gotye - Puzzle With A Piece Missing (Feb 02, 2008 - 22:45) | I wasn't a big fan of the rest of the album, the best songs are definitely "Puzzle With A Piece Missing" and "Heart's A Mess." This one is Thievery Corp.-ish, pretty good.
|
Tom Waits - I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You (Jan 29, 2008 - 19:38) | thatch wrote: Great song. He sounds a little like Bruce Springsteen. Is he still able to sing like this or is his voice permanently gruff now?

Foo Fighters - Still (Dec 20, 2007 - 19:08) | keller1 wrote: There is no musical similarity, zilch, nada, between Nirvana and the Foos.
The only connection is Grohl, in two completely different roles. I'm a big Grohl fan - for somebody who grew up in public he's remarkably level.
He was/is a great drummer but in my view Nirvana was an overrated band.
The Foos don't always hit the mark either, but when they do they're more musical than Nirvana ever was.
Completely agree.

Nice.

Big Head Todd & The Monsters - Drought of 2013 (Nov 13, 2007 - 10:17) | Michael Mann's eigenvectors make the case for global warming very clear. Global warming has occurred, science pwns.
That said, Big Head Todd is always pretty good.
|
Zero 7 - Throw It All Away (Nov 13, 2007 - 09:45) | I ordinarily think Zero 7 rocks the socks, but in this case I'm not really digging it. Seems like something TLC would sing.
|
Ani DiFranco - Swan Dive (live) (Nov 12, 2007 - 22:56) | Hah, I am mixed between giving this a 2 and 6, a 2 for the music being so bloody, or a 6 for the "I don't give a ****" attitude, so I will settle with 4.
|
Rodrigo y Gabriela - Stairway to Heaven (Nov 06, 2007 - 20:44) | This is the one song on the Rodrigo y Gabriela album I am not a big fan of. I would much rather hear the original Stairway to Heaven.
|
Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing (Nov 04, 2007 - 21:40) | How come Mark is played more often than Dire Straits around here? Brothers in Arms has some classics.
|
Tom Petty - Square One (Oct 30, 2007 - 23:06) | Usually I like Tom Petty, but I don't like this song. It's too circular.

Wilco - Can't Stand It (Oct 28, 2007 - 15:12) | qosforever wrote: This song remind me of "All is a game" from Nada Surf.
Yeah, the guitar riff before he says, "Can't stand it," is similar.
|
John Lennon - Give Me Some Truth (Oct 28, 2007 - 09:53) | I agree with all the comments on the song being overrated. The song has that big John Lennon name next to it, and it seems like the name, more than the musical quality, is getting the rating. Don't get me wrong, it is a good tune, but not THAT good.

It doesn't matter as long as you like the sound, but yes, it is a guy.
|
Bob Dylan - Hurricane (Oct 22, 2007 - 21:33) | How come this never gets played? Nothing less than outstanding.
|
Natalie Merchant - Thick As Thieves (Oct 20, 2007 - 19:38) | I saw all these Daniel Lanois comments, and didn't know where they were coming from because I could hardly tell of any guitar, but Lanois definitely outshines once his guitar kicks in.

Arcade Fire - Keep The Car Running (Oct 07, 2007 - 22:39) | I think that this song and Wake Up were my favorites, though all them rocked the socks, when I went to go see them in concert. I don't think that anyone played the same instrument the whole time.
Great song, great band, pretty good album (I'm partial to Funeral).
|
William Shatner - Common People (Oct 02, 2007 - 09:32) | Does Jarvis, or someone else, come in, or is that Shatner hitting the (relatively) high notes?

Radiohead - Stop Whispering (Apr 06, 2007 - 08:53) | Hah, that is funny how all the non-fans of Radiohead like this song, and as a fan of Radiohead I am not very fond of this song.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Idiot Prayer (Mar 19, 2007 - 21:57) | chasech5 wrote: I like Nick Cave a lot, but this song is awful.
I feel the same way, though the song is more so mediocre in my opinion. Everyone has a bad one every now and then.
|
Sonic Youth - New Hampshire (Mar 17, 2007 - 14:47) | Why do people think Sonic Youth sounds like Radiohead?? I don't hear anything similar, other than they both play experimental rock. Yes, they do date pre-Radiohead.
|
The Decemberists - Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) (Mar 12, 2007 - 21:21) | bokey wrote: OK,I'm convinced .These guys are excellent songwriters, instrumentalists and vocalists.
Yes, I agree on everything but vocal. Nonetheless, the vocals fit, and the songwriting and instrumentals are fantastic. Even if you don't like the music, you have to at least love the stories the Decemberists tell of (like taking revenge in the belly of a whale in a "The Mariner's Revenge Song"). Solid 7 for the song and an 8 for the group.
|
Bitter:Sweet - Dirty Laundry (Mar 12, 2007 - 16:12) | At first I thought this was a terrible Dre remix, but after further listening I discovered the song as its own terrible entity.

Nitin Sawhney - Mausam (Mar 08, 2007 - 18:48) | Was this by any chance the song at the end of that bank movie with Clive Owen and Denzel Washington?

Gorillaz - Demon Days (Mar 05, 2007 - 17:51) | Viv515 wrote: This song really piqued my interest -- until the singing began. Too bad. The musical introduction gets a 9 from me and the male vocalist gets a 3 (at best).
The instrumentation was actually sampled (as most of the songs on Demon Days are) from Eels - Efil's God. Check it out if you are looking for a cool tune.
|
Beck - Paper Tiger (Jun 22, 2006 - 22:15) | The only thing better than this song is this song live.
|
The Magic Numbers - Mornings Eleven (Nov 18, 2005 - 21:27) | I thought most of the album was actually pretty good. It's hard to resist indie-pop. Though they are definitely no Stars (pun not intended).
|
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Let the Bells Ring (Nov 04, 2005 - 16:00) | This, Murder Ballads, and Papa Won't Leave You Henry were always my favorites from Nick Cave. He's writing a screenplay for a movie. Undoubtedly it will be heedfully grim, but still sounds fun.
|
Ryan Adams - Wonderwall (Oct 11, 2005 - 16:19) | Argh. This cover is way too drawn out. There is absolutely no reason to take a song and change the pace just for the sake of it.
Covers always ruin everything.

Snow Patrol - Tiny Little Fractures (Sep 16, 2005 - 15:57) | I wish that there were something from Songs for Polar Bears or When Its All Over We Still Have to Clear Up, when Snow Patrol did things completely different. I liked the Snow Patrol of Final Straw, but they weren't the same cooky little experimental bunch.
|
Yes - I've Seen All Good People (Sep 14, 2005 - 20:50) | Might be a bit overplayed, but so is Roundabout, and I would love Roundabout no matter what. Same as I've Seen All Good People. Just because it is played more, doesn't mean I get tired of it. I like that others are allowed to enjoy the awesomeness of Yes.

Modest Mouse - Float On (Sep 07, 2005 - 14:37) | Float On seems sort of similar to Wolf Parade, but I wouldn't say other Modest Mouse is similar to Wolf Parade.
Even though Float On plays differently from most of Modest Mouse, I love it anyway. The video they did for was awesome.
