I feel like getting high to this song....

Joe Bonamassa - Driving Towards The Daylight
(Jun 29, 2012 - 16:33)
Album cover good; song bad.

I make everyone watch that video.

Jerry Douglas, Russ Barenberg & Edgar Meyer - Big Bug Shuffle
(Feb 01, 2012 - 11:19)
Turn it up...the harmonies will give you goosebumps!

Coldplay - Paradise
(Dec 18, 2011 - 00:54)
i must be a Coldplay whore.. I don't own any albums, not even a real fan, but find this song infectious. I can see a football stadium full of fans chanting out the chorous. yes, it has that sing-a-long grove to it. formulaic? maybe, but i'm drinking the koolade... i guess it's good i never expected this band to come through for me. do what you do and i may listen. radiohead they are not.

Boy & Bear - Fall At Your Feet
(Oct 12, 2011 - 15:01)
banjo gives it a 7 to start with...

Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien

Bob Marley - Waiting in Vain
(Aug 18, 2011 - 01:02)
if this song can't put you at ease, then there is no help for you...
this song defines mellow and should be used as a benchmark.

Gomez - Whatever's On Your Mind
(Jul 19, 2011 - 15:18)
yeah, this is getting a little too "radio friendly" for me...soft rock station at that.
somewhere along the lines Gomez has lost their edge. In Our Gun it aint...

Wilco - Muzzle of Bees
(Jun 03, 2011 - 21:52)
This is probably one of my favourite tunes from the last 10 years.

Czeslaw Spiewa - Maszyna do swierkania
(May 08, 2011 - 12:24)
Come on, don't vote something down just because of the language barrier. I guess I'm one of those music affictionados who doesn't really listen to lyrics anyway.

Cake - Long Line Of Cars
(Apr 28, 2011 - 13:50)
Any band that uses the vibraslap as liberally as these guys deserve kudos!

Great Lake Swimmers - Pulling on a Line

Listen carefully, if that's possible, to the bass and tell me if you can still honestly say that.

Alright, I'll bite. I'll listen more carefully next time. I may have missed the baseline...will have to turn up my EQ.

Joe Jackson - Fools in Love (Live)
(Feb 26, 2011 - 23:22)
Key to a good live track is being able to sing in tune. I could hold key better than this guy. Awful!

Radiohead - High and Dry

(Feb 05, 2011 - 08:05)
fuck you all....i like this song.

okay, maybe that's harsh, but really i could care less what she's singing about. i like her music. she can play a guitar like it's nobody's business. saw her at the Edmonton Fold Festival....freshly tuned guitar for every song...that's all i need.

Snow Patrol - Somewhere a Clock is Ticking
(Feb 05, 2011 - 07:42)
this song is weak.

Great Lake Swimmers - Pulling on a Line
(Oct 03, 2010 - 00:13)
Wow, can these guys do anything more that just strum chords?  About as complex as a campfire sing-a-long....

R.E.M. - Belong
(Sep 11, 2010 - 23:44)
Great album...brings back memories. REM at their peak!

does not get much better than this. understated instrumentation...

U2 - All I Want Is You
(Jul 17, 2010 - 01:03)
U2 when they were the greatest band on earth. Too bad they could not keep the creativity alive...

Mumford & Sons - Awake My Soul
(Jul 17, 2010 - 00:15)
Like the album cover...

Little Feat - Let It Roll
(Jul 17, 2010 - 00:01)
love tight bands! these guys know how to get it done...

Waterboys - Strange Boat
(Jul 16, 2010 - 23:33)
Probably my favorite album of all time. Timeless sound...great musicians, great arangements, and of course Mike Scott.

Beck - Golden Age
(Jul 03, 2010 - 22:44)
Fair to say Beck is a genius?

DeVotchKa - I Cried Like a Silly Boy
(May 01, 2010 - 23:07)
Come on people, this is not that bad. Nothing great, but different. That's what keeps me coming back to RP.

Mumford & Sons - Awake My Soul
(Mar 21, 2010 - 00:30)
When I am drunk I give everything at leat an 8 or more....but this is indeed good. I like some folk reinvention every now and then...

Razia Said - Babonao
(Mar 21, 2010 - 00:22)
Second song I have heard from this artist. I like it so far...anything Latin is usually good in my books.
Okay I stand corrected....anything African is good too.

Vampire Weekend - White Sky
(Feb 25, 2010 - 22:08)
It's different so it's good enough for me. Everything else is played. Give up on the Paul Simon references....he did not invent African guitar rhythms .

Talking Heads - Crosseyed And Painless
(Jan 15, 2010 - 21:45)
Still sounds fresh 30 years later....enough said.

The Shins - Australia
(Dec 04, 2009 - 22:45)

Iron & Wine and Calexico - Burn That Broken Bed
(Nov 22, 2009 - 02:26)

Mark Knopfler - Border Reiver
(Nov 22, 2009 - 02:21)
i heard 5 seconds of this song then saw it was Knopfler....gave it an 8. I'm giving everything an 8 tonight.....must be because I've just gotten over being sick for two weeks. But seriously....Mark Knopfler could play garbage can lids and I'd give it a good listen....

Camera Obscura - Shine Like A New Pin

Heard it too....very funny. Wonder if it was intentional.

Porcupine Tree - Start of Something Beautiful
(Sep 18, 2009 - 20:19)
Like this a lot more than I have the first dozen or so listens...

Wilco - You Are My Face

Not a big fan of Cave at all but certainly you were not expecting Nick's voice to be soothing.... I think you should look under Phil Collins for that.
Stereophonics - Pick a Part That's New
(Mar 22, 2008 - 01:36)
more vintage stereophonics! this is way too lightweight given their other tunes.
Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien
(Mar 14, 2008 - 21:48)
...best song ever....

oops, i posted that about Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored late last year.
i guess they will have to share that title.
Bruce Springsteen - The Promised Land
(Jan 09, 2008 - 19:44)
Why does Springsteen's music always sound like it is being delivered by a lead pipe to the head? It's loud, sloppy, and annoying...
Like a bar band who never learned to play in a more refined manner...
Dire Straits - Once Upon A Time In The West
(Dec 07, 2007 - 20:50)
Bloody hell, what a great sounding track. Sounds much better than a 128 kbps stream!

Seen her a few times live...has a stage hand bring out a freshly tuned guitar for every song...
The Tragically Hip - Fiddlers Green
(Aug 10, 2007 - 21:35)
My taste of the Hip wore off a little after their third album. Not that they are not a good band, but quite a few misses as of late... Heard a few new ones lately...again on RP...not bad!

Blondie vs The Doors - Rapture Riders

Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again

Kelly Joe Phelps - Beggar's Oil

Saw him play live in a church in downtown Calgary a few years back...
I have to say it was not the best venue other than the acoustics. He's pretty introverted when he plays and you can't get a good feel for his craft sitting a dozen pews back.
Hybrid - Steal You Away

The Shins - New Slang (When You Notice the Stripes)
(Aug 21, 2006 - 14:03)
Just got my turntable going again. Just bought this album on vinyl to get my collection going again.

Have to agree. It's not very subtle...as a funeral march it's great, as anything else...not so good.
John Hiatt - Your Dad Did
(Aug 14, 2006 - 14:38)
Still don't get all the fuss over Hiatt....album cover drops it down to a "2".

Who are these guys?

Apocalyptica - Ruska
(Aug 11, 2006 - 10:03)
Too academic for me.
Steely Dan - Bodhisattva
(Aug 11, 2006 - 08:47)
Dammit, I knew there would be some Steely Dan that I could not trash....this is one of them. Inevitably as I get older I will begin to embrace the nuances of Steely Dan and seek out their catalogue on vinyl.

Euphoria - The Getaway
(Aug 08, 2006 - 19:46)
Come on Bill, not everything these guys do is good...this has no redeeming qualities at all.
Dalton Grant - Opium
(Aug 06, 2006 - 14:41)
Way too whiny for me. If Thom Yorke sang this song it would be palatable.
10,000 Maniacs - Hey Jack Kerouac
(Jul 26, 2006 - 11:41)
What the hell is the band doing while she is singing?
Sounds like the guitar player's at least a half a beat behind....
Roy Rogers - I'm With You
(Jul 26, 2006 - 09:42)
I'm starting to believe more and more that blus need to be seen live to be appreciated. While the recording is good, it sounds more grating than anything else.

Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt - Kisses Sweeter Than Wine
(Jul 20, 2006 - 22:43)
I think what I like abouit this song is how tight the arangement is. Listen closely, it's really well mixed and produced. There's good balance between vocal and instruments...especially rythm guitar.

I grew up in San Antonio, Texas. One night, me and a buddy of mine were out checking the local spots. We stopped in a place called Skipwilly's (a small dive, off the beaten path, that used to be the "Teen Canteen"). Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble were playing that night (before they got famous). It was not well advertised, I guess, because me and my friend were the only people that showed up. We watched them play a four hour set. They played as if the place were packed, and they were awesome.

That is one night I am very jealous of. Very lucky to have such an intimate experience with someone so talented.

I have to agree, this is not blues. There are a lot of great guitarists who are not musical....this is one of them.

Johnny Cash - The Mercy Seat
(Mar 20, 2006 - 13:25)
The one thing about this song is the first few lines....."I'm sitting here on death row of a crime I totally innocent of you know"....and that's all we hear about it. Are we supposed to take his word for it, or is there something in the song that explains this? Clearly this song takes the form of a narrative, but I can't feel sorry for the character in the song unless I know what's going on.
Am I being too anal about this song???

It'd be nice to hear the original version of this song by the Oysterband, in my opinion a better band than GBS....
KT Tunstall - Other Side of the World

If it was not so overproduced might be better.
Like someone said, a bit like Sarah Harmer...would have liked a version by her.

(Jan 16, 2006 - 14:30)
Too bad The Beta Band is no longer....
Sonny Landreth - Broken Hearted Road

Listen to this song with headphones on...LOUD...it's pure pop genius!!!
George Harrison - Any Road

I love George's lyricism in his work. Just happy-g-lucky melodies.
The Tragically Hip - Looking For A Place To Happen
(Nov 08, 2005 - 21:40)
I love RP because it plays some great Canadian music. I hear better Canadian content than stations up here that are governed by the CRTC. That being said The Hip is not the best stuff on here. Not surprising that a good chunk of the reviewers are fellow canucks... Sorry guys, HIP are a Canadian band who could never really break out internationally.
Bruce Hornsby - Circus on the Moon
(Nov 01, 2005 - 08:44)
Anyone have any suggestions which albums to look into for a new Hornsby fan? Always appreciated his musicianship....think it is time to add him to my collection. Thanks.....
The Cure - Out Of This World

Sinéad O'Connor - Downpressor Man
(Oct 19, 2005 - 15:02)
Is this old/new? Thought she retired? I like it though.
Beck - Golden Age
(Oct 19, 2005 - 14:31)
Is this brilliant or what? This is what "new country" could have become... Oh well, we will keep him for ourselves.

Live - Lightning Crashes

Never got this band...the more I hear it this song, the more I hate it....it blows goats!
Waifs - Flesh and Blood

Plus the girls are cute!

Beethoven - Symphony No.5 - Allegro Con Brio
(Oct 13, 2005 - 12:45)
Very cool.
Here's a silly question, if Beethoven were born today, which artist would he most resemble? Not physically, but artistically? Okay, so I'm a little bored at work....
Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Mondo Bongo
(Oct 12, 2005 - 09:05)
What's wrong with people who can't handle a song that is 5 minutes long? Do we really all have such short attention spans?
Maybe that is why Classical is dead, no one can sit through a symphony anymore. Sure this song is on the long side, but it does not do so unnecessarily.

Aromabar - Velvet Nights
(Oct 12, 2005 - 08:15)
Yes, drumming has quite a bit of syncopation. Man or machine...it's good drumming.
Miss Chaos - Mama Cries
(Oct 11, 2005 - 14:52)
This song is good once in a while...but after repeated listenings it gets tiresome. There is not a whole lot of substance here.

Steely Dan - Haitian Divorce
(Oct 11, 2005 - 10:43)
Come on, does anyone really like Steely Dan? I try with every track to find something good.....I can't. Maybe I can't detect their subtle jazz structure or thier layered what-not, but I just don't get it.
Depeche Mode - Precious
(Oct 06, 2005 - 08:41)
I too have to admit I am an old fan. I saw a live DVD from several years ago and it had me going. Once a DM fan always a DM fan....even if you don't come out and say it.
Depeche Mode - Precious
(Oct 06, 2005 - 08:32)
Is this old or new DM? Starting to sound the same....
The Tea Party - Winter Solstice
(Sep 30, 2005 - 14:10)
I was really trying to place this song, before having to go to the Playlist. Have not heard it in a dog's age...and I have the CD!

Talking Heads - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)
(Sep 30, 2005 - 08:54)
Best Heads song!
Love the guitar and the playfull nature of the instruments.
Natalie Merchant - Ophelia (live)
(Sep 21, 2005 - 11:58)
OK, this is not the best song on this album, but there are some gems on it. Whether you like her singing or not, the recording quality on this "live" album is remarkable. Someone at the mixing board knew what they were doing. Track 2 really proves this. Saw her perform at the Edmonton Folk Festival last year and the sound was just as good....that in an open air natural amphitheatre. I happen to enjoy her singing style, but will admit I would not want to listen to her all day.
