English Beat - Mirror In The Bathroom
(May 14, 2006 - 05:14) | I rediscovered this song recently when I got the greatest hits album. I'd forgotten how good it is.
Incidentally, I think the mirror in the bathroom was what he used to snort speed from. I always thought Oasis' line about 'all your dreams are made / when you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade' owed a lot, lyrically, to 'mirror in the bathroom'.
Sure, ska is generally white guys getting reggae wrong (the same way that rock 'n' roll is white guys getting the blues wrong) but there's something infectiously enervating about good ska. This is a great song, certainly as good as anything else from the 80s English ska scene.
