Peter Gabriel - I Have The Touch (Aug 15, 2009 - 03:25) | No, I didn't know that. I wish he'd pulled the bass up more during his tweaking - that's my one complaint with the Plays Live set - you can't hear Tony Levin's fabulous bass playing as well as on the studio albums. That and the fact that they didn't include 'Lay Your Hands on Me', one of my all-time faves of PG.

Peter Gabriel - Big Time (Dec 30, 2008 - 11:02) | Omega wrote: Anything, anything at all besides Big Tiime and Sledgehammer.
I agree wholeheartedly. Love most of Peter Gabriel's stuff but those two songs are big stinkers.
The Innocence Mission - You Chase the Light (Dec 30, 2008 - 06:31) | ROSSinDETROIT wrote: My wife says this sounds somewhat like Harriet Wheeler of The Sundays and I have to agree.
I agree - sometimes she does sound similar. I much prefer Harriet Wheeler, though - she's got the better voice. Love love love The Sundays.
John Lennon - Imagine (Dec 21, 2008 - 07:32) | I know that John Lennon is a legend and this song is a classic, but I have never warmed to him or his music.
The Cure - A Forest (tree mix) (Dec 19, 2008 - 12:21) | radiojunkie wrote: I don't understand why so many people find this objectionable. But then, I don't understand a lot of things.
I don't understand it either. I have this CD (actually ended up with two copies cos I think I had to re-buy it when I moved to Ireland and left it behind in Canada) and really enjoyed those remixes.
Tracy Bonham - Something Beautiful (Dec 19, 2008 - 07:12) | This song is beautiful. I remember when I first heard her song 'Mother Mother' - one of the few songs that just grab you at the first listen and make you say "WOW!!!!"
The Donnis Trio - Tip of the Tongue (Dec 19, 2008 - 06:54) | spaceman wrote:Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London I'll show you something to make you change your mind I've always sung "Let me grab you by the hair and drag you through the streets of London"...
Peter Gabriel - I Have The Touch (Dec 17, 2008 - 11:57) | Love the version done on his 'Plays Live' album from 1983. That whole album was amazing, with many of the live versions better than the originals in my opinion.
Eels - From Which I Came/A Magic World (Dec 17, 2008 - 11:28) | ricardoramos wrote: Boards of Canada next, would be the right way Bill.
Yes, would love to hear some Boards of Canada on RP. I note there is only one of their songs played here. That's a shame.

Johnny Rivers - Secret Agent Man (Dec 17, 2008 - 05:25) | Gednabb wrote: Oh, so it's NOT "Secret Asian Man"
On a morning that I desperately needed a laugh, that comment did it for me. I nearly snorted coffee up my nose. Thanks!

Melody Gardot - Worrisome Heart (Dec 15, 2008 - 10:04) | Baby_M wrote: Perfect. This piece puts me in a smoky mid-century cocktail lounge in a Botany 500 suit and matching narrow tie, a martini on the table before me, an Avanti in the parking lot, and a slinky Melody in a black dress on the stage.
Make mine a watermelon martini!
Lamb - Gorecki (Dec 15, 2008 - 09:54) | Brilliant song. Love the video for this, as well.
Delerium - Silence (Featuring Sarah McLachlan) (Dec 07, 2008 - 12:29) | It's a pity other Delerium tunes aren't played here more often, and no other tracks from Karma are ever played. Their collaborations with Kristy Thirsk on that album are much better than this. I got tired of this song during the first playing, and when I play their CD Karma I always skip this one.
Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey (Dec 07, 2008 - 11:10) | I always enjoy Van Morrison, especially on a rainy old day like today when it's nice to just stay dry and warm and mellow out with a cup of tea.
Beth Orton - Central Reservation (Dec 07, 2008 - 08:27) | Hungerdunger wrote: I was just about to post a comment about how much she annoys me by putting at least one "h" into every word she sings, but I see you beat me to it by mor-hor tha-han a yea-hear.
I agree. I like quite a few of her songs, but on some of her songs her habit of pulling two syllables out of a one-syllable word annoys the crahap out of me.
Ray LaMontagne - Be Here Now (Dec 04, 2008 - 05:27) | I absolutely positively LOVE this song. Fantastic. Personally, I think the breathlessness works.
U2 - Bad (Nov 28, 2008 - 10:39) | bindi wrote: I think the recording session went like this: "Bono, we have to finish this album in three minutes, crap out one last song really, really fast!" "your real fans will love it anyway"
I'm a fan, but not a "real fan" I guess
I must be a "real fan" cos I loved this album. Reckoned it was "romantic" but then that was back in the days before I grew old and cynical... Actually, heck, no I still think it's romantic
Arctic Monkeys - Do Me A Favour (Nov 28, 2008 - 08:48) | I had to plug the earphones into the computer here at work so I could crank this one! Lubblee-Gubblee!
Cowboy Junkies - Lay it Down (Nov 28, 2008 - 08:28) | I could never warm to these guys. They're not horrible but I just don't like their style.
Catherine Wheel - Fripp (Nov 28, 2008 - 07:06) | Lovely song, but I feel the need to take a Happy Tablet after listening to it
U2 - I Will Follow (Nov 26, 2008 - 12:30) | rickhoran wrote:
for me, the only U2, after this one (Boy release) I stopped listening.
I listened right up til The Joshua Tree. The last recording I really enjoyed was The Unforgettable Fire . Joshua Tree was good but Rattle & Hum made me heave You just can't beat their first three recordings, though.
The Smiths - How Soon Is Now (Nov 25, 2008 - 07:47) | coloradojohn wrote: THIS masterpiece probably has a lot going for it on sheer association with the times it blew us all away in...it can still grab me by the spine and make me crank it, every time! But I'm curious to know if those who weren't around or aware of it when it broke get the same jolt from it...
I hadn't heard of the Smiths until 1994 when someone loaned me a tape that contained this song. I was amazed by it and even to this day am amazed by those guitars and that voice everytime I hear it. I got into more music by the Smiths and also by Morrissey but this particular song will always be my favourite - none like it. Solid 10.

Moby - Signs Of Love (Nov 24, 2008 - 12:18) | max_redonx wrote: vegans make boring musak
Maybe so maybe no, but they definitely make better lovers.
Deep Forest - Sweet Lullaby (Nov 24, 2008 - 10:41) | Seems not many people who listen to RP like Deep Forest. I really liked them, especially the work they did with Marta Sebestyen. I had never heard anything like that before and it really opened me up to explore World Music.
Peter Murphy - Cuts You Up (Nov 24, 2008 - 09:50) | Darn, I was away from my desk and missed this! Love this song and the video is fab as well!
Autamata - Out of This (Nov 23, 2008 - 08:22) | I've heard a few things from these guys and really like them. I think I'm going to have to buy some of their music. Would love to hear Skimming Stones on here.
Cocteau Twins - Donimo (Nov 20, 2008 - 07:22) | Oh wow - this is bringing back memories! I first heard Cocteau Twins when a friend loaned me her cassette while I was visiting her in Dublin. I've been hooked on them ever since. This is one of my favourites.
Waterboys - Sweet Thing (Nov 20, 2008 - 07:10) | Love this version. Prefer the original by Van Morrison, but this version is fantastic.
Crowded House - Nails In My Feet (Nov 16, 2008 - 07:54) | tompoll wrote: Neil Finn is one of the best, most consistent songwriters around IMHO. Has been for a long time.
I agree wholeheartedly!
Dire Straits - You And Your Friend (Nov 15, 2008 - 06:48) | catnip wrote: But what would we think now of Dire Straits if they'd have called it a day after Love Over Gold?
"Money for Nothing", "Industrial Disease" and "Twisting by the Pool" made me cringe, but that didn't change my opinion of Dire Straits. I still think they were an amazing band and still love most of their music.
Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum (Nov 11, 2008 - 15:06) | Pyro wrote: The "drum sounds" she sings remind me very much of Sheila Chandra. That's where the similarity ends. I like them both!
yes, the song 'Ticka Ticka Ta'. Sheila Chandra is brilliant.

Nitin Sawhney - Mausam (Nov 11, 2008 - 11:45) | This is the translation I found:
To live life in one color For your entire life This, your heart's desire, isn't right To live life in one color For your entire life This, your heart's desire, isn't right
To live life in one color For your entire life This, your heart's desire, isn't right Sadness and happiness are two paths To walk on one path, isn't right
Season changes, happiness comes, sadness goes Season changes, happiness comes, sadness goes

Nitin Sawhney - Mausam (Nov 11, 2008 - 11:29) | Love it. The vocals are beautiful and the music mellow. A wonderful song.
Gary Jules - Mad World (Nov 06, 2008 - 07:42) | chyk5 wrote: It seems as if listeners overwhelmingly prefer this over the original, but I guess you had to be coming of age at the time and heard that entire album. This version pales in comparison.
I absolutely agree with you. I much prefer the original (although this is a good cover precisely because it's so drastically different than the original). The entire album 'The Hurting' by Tears For Fears was so completely unlike anything I had ever heard and I wanted to learn how to do that crazy dance Roland Orzibal was doing in the video! Happy times!
Señor Coconut and His Orchestra - Humo En El Agua (Smoke on The Water) (Nov 05, 2008 - 08:47) | This is hilarious - it reminds me of a cassette my parents brought home years ago called 'Tijuana Christmas' by some unknown band. They played trad Xmas songs in tijuana style, complete with the 'ting-a-ling-a-ling' cowbell in strategic places, just like this song.
It was so cheesy that we all loved it and played it every year. This is truly horrible but I'm glad Bill played it. I wouldn't want to hear it too often either, but once in a while would be really good, as well as other songs done in different styles
Van Morrison - Madame George (Nov 05, 2008 - 08:08) | I love this song - he's such a great story-teller. The entire album is fantastic - a true classic.
I saw Van Morrison a few years ago when he came to Halifax - absolute magic. He sounds exactly the same live as he does on his albums.
Camera Obscura - Keep It Clean (Nov 04, 2008 - 08:17) | dharmanavy wrote:I like this song but there are a thousand groups that sound just like this playing in Coffee houses all over the world... Luckily for those who don't have coffee houses with live bands in their neighbourhoods, we can listen to our Camera Obscura CDs on our stereos .

The Police - Driven To Tears (Nov 03, 2008 - 07:52) | EssexTex wrote: Sting Stinks
No way. Just listen to that bass. Fantastic! And nobody would've been able to screech "Rawwwwwwwwwwxanne!" like Sting did. Zenyatta Mondatta was such a brilliant album.

Van Morrison - Moondance (Oct 29, 2008 - 06:39) | laroue wrote:Any chance for something from Astral Weeks? I second that! Fantastic and crazy album that was. How about 'Sweet Thing'?
Kate Bush - The Big Sky (Oct 19, 2008 - 11:40) | Nope, sorry, as much as I love Kate Bush, this song makes me nauseous.
U2 - Until the End of the World (Oct 17, 2008 - 07:21) | They seemed to lose their passion after The Joshua Tree. Or maybe I just lost interest. I love their older stuff - not such a fan of anything after Rattle & Hum.
Björk - Big Time Sensuality (Oct 09, 2008 - 11:20) | Every time I hear this song now I see Dawn French spoofing the video

Oasis - (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady (Oct 08, 2008 - 11:37) | More_Cowbell wrote: Vocals sound like Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorrilaz), I am sure the boys will hate to hear that!
Ahhh Blur. Let's have some of that! Something from Think Tank...
Tori Amos - i i e e e (Sep 25, 2008 - 12:08) | I've been a Tori Amos fan since her very first album, and I think this is one of her best songs. It's certainly among my favourites.
Sundays - Wild Horses (Sep 01, 2008 - 08:31) | I think the layered backing vocals starting halfway through the song and the guitar make this a much better version.
biologenius wrote: Interesting that so many seem to like this cover. Why?? Dull vocals and boring guitar. No contribution, merely redundancy. It's good material made less good.
Rolling Stones - Wild Horses (Sep 01, 2008 - 08:25) | I much prefer The Sundays' version, all those lovely layered backing vocals and dreamy guitars - much better than the original.
When In Rome - The Promise (Oct 07, 2007 - 17:39) | I was really happy to hear this song played just now. I think it's one of my favourite songs from the 80s. Very sweet and always brings a smile to my face. Thanks RP!!
