Just such a cool tune

First Aid Kit - When I Grow Up
(May 27, 2012 - 12:41)
Oh... that was a very good song. Had to buy it on iTunes. Thank you, Bill.

You know, I have been making mixed-tapes (mixed-CDs) for my fiancee since I met her. After two years, I am working on number 8 now, and this song will be on it. Your radio station has been a source and an inspiration for those mixed tapes, which are one reason I was able to win her heart. I do have enough self esteem to think that that was not the main reason. But nevertheless, thank you, Bill, for that great music you play....

Marianne Faithfull - Broken English
(May 27, 2012 - 12:27)
I bought a LP player the other day, just for fun. bought this marianne faithful - LP with it, just for a euro. And have been listening to that record for at least 10 times so far. Just great music....

BTW, has anyone seen "Irina Palm"?

David Bowie - Under Pressure (w/ Queen)

Neko Case - Things That Scare Me
(Feb 21, 2012 - 16:00)
Weird, sounds like straight from the 70s

Mocean Worker - Right Now
(Feb 21, 2012 - 15:12)
If you like them, check out Parov Stelar. Bought this album (Mocean Worker) after someone suggested that Parov Stelar and Mocean Worker share the same spirit....

Bob Dylan - Desolation Row
(Feb 21, 2012 - 15:05)
I know this sounds like blasphemy, but I like the Smashing Pumkins - version much better....

Leonard Cohen - Amen

Fantastic poet. Passable music. If you're listening to Mr. Cohen as a musician you're most likely going to be disappointed. But if you're listening to him as a poet who uses music to convey his verse, he's infinitely more satisfying.

Oh, I don't know about that. It is just that he has developed a certain style in music, which sometimes seems out of date a little bit. But then again, when you see hin at one of his concerts, you can not possible retract from the magic of his sound. And he always has two smoking hot background singer ladys on stage, which, with their sound and apperance, make up for the somehow aged voice of mister Cohen.

There is a really good version of this song done by Bono/U2 and, I think, the Corrs.  It's much more atmospheric than this version.

You know, I'd like to hear Nick Cave and Kylie do it, a la their  "Wild Rose" duet.  That would be interesting and perhaps quite good.

Your wish has been granted....  ...check out the version by Ville Vallo & Natalia Avelon , it sounds like what you wished for....

interesting that you call this sound "reinvented." i'd like to hear an explanation of exactly how this shows any musical growth from what was being created in the eighties. there is no reinvention or evolution here, just a mimicry of was done 20+ years ago. everybody recognizes the impact of kraftwerk and depeche mode and other electronic pioneers of the late 70s and early 80s. it has been done - long ago. it's time to move on. let's hear something that builds on that foundation and brings something fresh and inventive.

Nick Cave wrote a whole movie!

Check out the fantastic, brutal and very poetic movie The Proposition. From screenplay to music, it's all Nick Cave!

So beautiful - give Nick a chance guys you don't know what you are missing.

The Byrds - Lover of The Bayou
(Aug 09, 2009 - 06:21)
sounds like "Tweeter And The Monkey Man" by The Traveling Wilburys.....

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Born On The Bayou
(Aug 09, 2009 - 02:01)
Maybe it is slower than most modern rocksongs, but this tune definetly has some force...

I love CCR....

I hear what he's sayin' though—it DOES sound slower to me too. It may be because popular radio stations had (and still have) a tendency to 'pitch-up' singles to just up the tempo a little, you know, for the kids.

I wonder if the version I've always heard on the radio is the result of such chicanery?

The Who - Love, Reign O'er Me
(Aug 08, 2009 - 10:50)
When I hear the song, I always connect it with the Adam-Sandler-Movie with the same titel....

and since I was so impressed with the movie, this song - besides its cheesyness - gives me goosebumps....

God is an Astronaut - Remaining Light
(Aug 08, 2009 - 02:05)
Before I came to see the RP-light, I only knew Mogwai, and was craving for more music like that. RP brought me God is an Anstronaut and Mooncake...   Tank you very much Bill.  And yes, if I buy music, I always use the RP-Itunes link....{#Yes}

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
(Aug 06, 2009 - 00:44)
Well, even Leonard Cohen doest't really know what exactly the song is about....   He said so in the documetary "I'm your man"....

Except, uh, this song is about worldly love - actually the antithesis of spiritual transcendence. That's why it's a cold and it's a lonely hallelujah. {#Shifty}

(Jul 10, 2009 - 03:16)

Yes, the song "Birthday" comes to mind.

But I keep hearing this as being a more up-tempo version of the "Twin Peaks" song.

Being on the other side of the pond, you may not have heard that a few years ago Mr. Cohen came down from Mt. Baldy Zen Centre to find that his manager had cleaned him out quite thoroughly.  He may indeed still be digging himself out of that financial hole.

Eddie Vedder - Rise
(Dec 05, 2008 - 06:29)
Just sounds like "Fury in the Slaughterhouse"...

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
(Dec 04, 2008 - 09:25)
it's a 10

there is a reason why Bono of U2 does background-singing for him, why Hallelujah is probably one of the most coverd songs in the world - and one of the best.

And yes, Cohens "Hallelujah" does not go down your ears easy, but hearing the words from the mind that actualy came up with it, gives them a depth that no one else can give.
