What is really sad is that I uploaded a David Gilmour song and it was rejected...and this song was accepted?

Not to be annoyingly PC, but "Whores"? "Big Tits and Blond hair"? Kinda seems a bit misogynistic...
Conjure One - Sleep (remix)
(Jun 30, 2003 - 13:22)
Sinead O'Connor never sounded so good! Plus I like the David Gilmore-esque guitar. Most Excellent!

Luka Bloom - Diamond Mountain

Been hearing lotsa Luka Bloom lately... and that's a GOOD thing. I find his songs pierce my heart and bring me to the edge of tears... yet I like to be moved. Wonderful radio Bill!
Goldfrapp - Utopia
(Jun 06, 2003 - 10:44)

Joni is a true original right up there with Dylan and Neil Young. Like them, not everything she does is to my taste, but they are true artists, following their muses (as in "music") and they are ALWAYS worth investigating. What would our world be without art? A wasteland...

it was rated a 1 long before i got here.

the irony is that you suggest those who don't love america should leave, yet you appear to idolize a (fictitious) violent criminal who ignores american laws and ideals to enrich himself. so when are you leaving?

Hmmm... many polar opinions. I like it, but y'know, whatever. But I think that one thing influencing the opinions is the fact that asian music doesn't use the same intervals in their scales that western music does. And therefore, we aren't "trained" to hear it as pleasant, or emotional, or anything... it just feels foreign. When the chromatic scale first started to be used in the west, many had very strong negative reactions to it. But now we are "trained" to not hear the slight compromise frequencies as dissonant...
Just a thought.
Los Lobos - Malaque
(May 16, 2003 - 14:30)
When I was programming The Mountain in Salt Lake City we did a promotion where os Lobos played for a private party at a restaurant called The Red Iguana (I think). They were great! The cops came and shut us down, but it was a real highlight of my time there... great great live band...
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Riviera Paradise

Please do speak out against more media re-regulation! But there is a bit of misunderstanding here. Clear Channel did organize protests about the whole Dixie Chicks thing, but never issued a blanket ban on their music at their stations. That was then 2nd biggest radio group, Cumulus. Not saying Clear Channel doesn't suck... just setting the record straight.

I believe the previous posts were refering to dynamic range compression rather than data comperssion. Two different things. If the dynamic range is overcompressed it sounds bad even at 16 bit 44.1 kHz like a CD. This is something the mix engineer is responsible for.

Her wonderful Sandy Denny flavoured voice could be up front a bit more in the mix, and yeah I hear a bit of digital processing on it. The drums are definitely "big rock drums". But I still like the song. BTW I would bet cash money that Mitchell Froom uses classic mics and classic pre-amps like those found in vintage Neve consoles and records to tape whenever he can. #4 Look at a few listener's upload list, at least 50 percent of each one is rejected
#5 Contrary to your belief, not everything revolves around Pink Floyd. They have been overplayed for 30 years, not everyone believes the myth that they are one of the greatest bands ever.

Thank you Ladies and Gents for your time

#1 As you have uploaded nothing, it is silly to complain that uploads are rejected.

#2 And your point is?

#3 They probably can buy CD's, but this way they get listener input.

#4 I Like the fact that RP is willing to consider the stuff I upload. I don't expect them to add all or even most of it.

#5 I'm burned on Floyd too. But listeners here rate them very highly. They also rate this Brubeck tune very highly. Originally you were complaining that RP does not take listener opinion into account. I am pointing out that they DO. You simply don't agree with most listeners on Floyd or Brubeck. Thats ok, but the point is Bill and Rebecca are paying attention. Do I like every single song played here? No. But I do appreciate the fact that RP offers WAY more variety than any other listening source I know. So for me, it is well worth it to listen through something I don't like to get to something I do like.

#6 Sorry about your financial situation. I'm pretty broke too, but I do need high speed access for work. This is not intended as sarcasm.

#7 You speak your mind. I speak my mind. Thats how it works.

Not that the Sundays are a copy either. The songwriting styles are very different. Harriet from The Sundays tended to write quite oblique lyrics in The Sundays early days, then got (IMHO) rather obvious... still nice though. Karen from the Innocence Mission writes in a more literary style. There is something very clean and direct, yet almost anti-structural about her lyrics. The AMG blurb on the band puts this better than I can. Also, The Innocence Mission are devout Catholics. As an ex-Catholic that's not necessarily a plus for me (though not a minus either), but in terms of thematic material, well that's quite different from The Sundays.

The Innocence Mission is one of my very favorite bands. If you have the chance to see them grab it.

Yes we do have to hear him everyday.

Roxy Music - Avalon
(Apr 11, 2003 - 13:18)
I am a HUGE Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry fan. I caught their reunion tour in LA and I have to say they were better than ever!

Marvin Gaye - Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)
(Apr 09, 2003 - 13:47)
an excellent choice from soul music's greatest protest album... a masterpiece...
Coldplay - Trouble

Jethro Tull - With You There to Help Me

Great to hear some pre-Aqualung Tull!
John Martyn - He's Got All the Whiskey
(Apr 09, 2003 - 12:38)
Anything from John is always welcome with me! His early stuff was a bit like Nick Drake, but he survived to try several different styles, and always sounded good. Heavy drinking HAS taken its toll on his carreeer though...
Supergrass - Grace
(Apr 08, 2003 - 20:01)
Thought it was a T. Rex song that I didn't know...
But I like it!

An American Bjork... interesting. Topo bad about the survivor gig...
U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love) (live)
(Apr 07, 2003 - 22:22)
I'd prefer the studio version... and even more I would prefer an "Album cut"
1 Giant Leap - The Way You Dream

Porcupine Tree - Lips Of Ashes

The prominence of Porcupine Tree is one of the things that is so freakin' great about RP.

Jumpshot only rates 2 songs a ten... one by Dylan, one by Neil Young. You'd think this meant he was tolerant of less than technically perfect vocals...

"I think it's *chic* to like Dylan, but he's way overated, even as a 'social commentator'. I have this vision of him waking up from one of his stupors, realizing that all the causes for which he stood suddenly looked very different from the eyes of a (more) mature man with real responsibilities and a vantage point whose childhood outlines were colored in by two little things called 'reality' and 'practicality'. Tho he's not without talent, I'd never call him a talented musician, nor even gifted. His music, voice, arrangements and harmonica are grating when they're not banal. As a musician, I want other musicians to somehow inspire me. Perhaps it's the same for non-musicians, I don't know. To me, Dylan creates not only sadly uninspired music, but is markedly uninspiring. There are a few tunes of his I like (this isn't one of them!), but even a stopped clock...."

His earlier music was definitely more political with an underlying black/white, or with us/against us mentality. However, the ambiguity of his later work (last 30 years that is)is reflective of his pursuit of more grander truths; principally, I think, his own pursuit of God. If that's childish, then Dylan's an infant suckling on his mother's breast.

For years and years I didn't "get" Dylan. Now I do. My life is richer for it.
Toad The Wet Sprocket - Something's Always Wrong
(Mar 25, 2003 - 10:58)
Local band makes good... music that is. Glenn's lyrics are always thornier than they seem at first glance. Hooray!

Love this song...
but when I saw them at The Fillmore in San Francisco they had all dropped acid for the occassion and were a bit ummm sloppy.

I's modern. Cars that go boom y'know. The highs got lost with all the phase shifting. The production is a bit much, but it's a good track. Thanks Bill.

Dixie Chicks - Sin Wagon
(Mar 25, 2003 - 09:26)
Musically just OK, but I appreciate this a political statement in support of freedom of speach.
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen
(Mar 24, 2003 - 12:00)
C'mon... make it stop! EEEEileeeeeen!

God, I hope they never have a reunion tour.

Wow. Those are sure some strong feelings... watch it, you could give yourself liver cancer that way!

Anyway, it's unfortunate that Supertramp got so much exposure with one of their weakest efforts, "Breakfast In America". Up to that point they had been a brilliant although rather obscure band. Truly an outstanding live act, with thoughtful lyrics, fine musicianship, and great production. This tune shows their better side. An 8 for me.
Nirvana - All Apologies

an amazing summation. Bye Kurt

Big Head Todd & The Monsters - Hysteria
(Mar 23, 2003 - 13:04)
best thing i've heard from them since the debut
Stevie Wonder - Don't You Worry 'bout A Thing
(Mar 23, 2003 - 12:53)
Music from Stevie's fertile 70's period that was once overplayed now sounds great. What an amazing talent!
Super Furry Animals - Run! Christian, Run!
(Mar 22, 2003 - 20:50)
with all the eclectic touches (ambient w country?!?) I can see why Bill likes it but... plodding...
Hooverphonic - Inhaler
(Mar 22, 2003 - 19:22)
resistance is futile
Aimee Mann - Save Me
(Mar 22, 2003 - 17:14)
Sometimes her Beatleisms are a bit too mannered, too much for me but this is OK.
Better Than Ezra - One More Murder
(Mar 22, 2003 - 16:28)
Everybodys is saying U2 and yeah i see what u mean but reminds ME of Fingerpritz w "Wet Job"
Pretty good, very produced

(Mar 21, 2003 - 15:03)
This whole album (I Am Sam soundtrack; all Beatles covers) is surprisingly likeable
Art Of Noise - Peter Gunn
(Mar 21, 2003 - 11:04)
fun... but I KNOW that snare snap & roll is sampled from somewhere and it is driving me crazy trying to figure it out
Morcheeba - Fragments of Freedom
(Mar 21, 2003 - 10:58)
They're OK, but (in my opinion) over-rated
The Beatles - Come Together
(Mar 21, 2003 - 10:48)
Love The Beatles, but this one is overplayed

Unlikely to have happened. They made a big point of only playing in California in the day. Huge band here, particularly in LA, but almost completely unknown outside of California.

Pish. Drums and Wires is every bit as good as Skylarking. Having received exposure does not make a song bad.
The Innocence Mission - Everything's Different Now
(Mar 19, 2003 - 18:18)
Yeah I like the Sundays too, but The Innocence Mission is no copy... they are great in their own right. In fact I'll take them over the Sundays if forced to choose... but hey, I don't have to!

BTW Innocence Mission 1st CD 1989
Sundays 1st CD 1990
