The Wailin' Jennys - Arlington

This works for me.  But does anyone know if it's what the Wailin' Jennys intended?  Has anyone heard them introduce the song live, or have any other reference?  I've read all 15 pages of comments here on RP and Googled away for a half hour and found nothing.  {#Sad}

The song is divine.

I wondered about this too, esp. since they're Canadian and all.

Can't believe it's not at least an 8!

Nick Jaina - Sleep Child
(Aug 27, 2010 - 10:37)
Seems underrated to me at 5 point something. Quite likeable, I say.

Calexico - Sunken Waltz
(Aug 25, 2010 - 11:48)
What a gem of a song. First time I've managed to catch it on RP.

Andrew Bird - Scythian Empires
(Aug 16, 2010 - 12:49)
I heard a live version of this performed with Calexico at the Newport Folk Festival. Absolutely stopped me in my tracks with its beauty.

The National - England
(Aug 05, 2010 - 09:02)
Funny thing for me is that whenever I see the thumbnail of the High Violet album cover, I think it's a map. Of England. That's been going on since before I heard this song. Which I just bumped to 9. Love it!

Basement Jaxx - Scars
(Aug 04, 2010 - 08:15)
ha, I think this is the lowest rated song I've come across on RP.

The Bad Plus - Comfortably Numb
(Jul 27, 2010 - 07:24)
Better than the original.

Play it, Bill! Pretty please?

Joseph Arthur - In The Sun
(Jul 26, 2010 - 08:43)

The singing and the repetition is difficult to listen to. This is a song where I'll turn the volume down all the way and take a 5 minute break until it's over.

It's not bad but would benefit by being at least 2 minutes shorter.

U2 - Seconds

Anyone ever guess that's Larry Mullen on the album cover, as a kid? Curious.

The boy on the cover is Peter Rowen (brother of Bono's friend, Guggi). He also appears on the covers of Boy, Three, The Best of 1980-1990, and Early Demos. Bono described the reasoning behind the cover: "Instead of putting tanks and guns on the cover, we've put a child's face. War can also be a mental thing, an emotional thing between loves. It doesn't have to be a physical thing."

"Welcome to It's Academic!  I'm your host, Mac McGarry!"  (Gotta be from DC to get this one)

Yes, exactly. Hopelessly dorky connotations when I hear the opening notes. Visions of psychedelic cheerleaders are dancing in my head.

Ray LaMontagne - Beg Steal or Borrow
(Jul 16, 2010 - 10:12)
I gave this a 9 on first listen. I love it a little more each time I hear it.

Sia - Breathe Me
(Jul 09, 2010 - 07:21)
For some reason visions of Coca Cola are dancing before my eyes.

Daniel Lanois - Where Will I Be
(Jun 03, 2010 - 13:32)
Well done, scrubbrush! We could all use a little more Lanois in our lives.

The Bad Plus - Flim
(Jun 01, 2010 - 08:15)

Ha, I had a dream last night about the Bad Plus. I was telling someone 'you gotta see these guys live.'

I feel like I'm talking to myself.

Donna the Buffalo - There Must Be
(May 21, 2010 - 04:53)
I discovered this when someone included it on a mix CD for me. Hearing it never gets old.

The Bad Plus - Flim
(May 20, 2010 - 08:37)
You gotta see these guys live if you can. So awesome. I could watch Dave King (drummer) do his thing all day.

Bob Dylan - Not Dark Yet
(May 14, 2010 - 09:33)
Frankly Godlike —> 10!

The Bad Plus - Flim
(Feb 26, 2010 - 09:59)
First time I've heard BP here. Thanks for playing!

Chris Whitley - To Joy (Revolution of the Innocents)
(Jan 13, 2010 - 13:26)
Chris Whitley's daughter Trixie is following in her dad's footsteps and has teamed up with Daniel Lanois and Brian Blade on a new project dubbed... Black Dub:

Daniel Lanois - Sleeping In The Devil's Bed
(Jan 07, 2010 - 08:16)
Would love to hear (much) more DL on RP!

Peter Gabriel - Of These, Hope
(Dec 09, 2009 - 13:18)
As a newcomer to RP, it is so great to hear this in the mix. I was in high school when this came out and randomly picked up the CD at music store. It was my initiation to 'world' music. I'm glad to say I'm not listening to most of the stuff I was at 18 but this one I def. am! Also my favorite thing of PG's.

Feist - 1234
(Dec 09, 2009 - 06:05)
Like this song quite a bit with one glaring 'but' - that 'whoa-oh-oh' refrain makes it sound like she's channeling Shania Twain (song name I've mercifully blocked from memory).
