R.E.M. - It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
(Dec 21, 2012 - 10:59)
Great choice, just as I turned to my co-workers to mention that today is supposed to be the end of the world... noticed this in the background...

I too feel fine.  {#Bananajumprope}

The Beatles - Birthday
(Oct 04, 2012 - 16:43)
As it is my birthday too... thank you for this!!!

The Cure - Purple Haze

Agree with both your first two statements and while I wouldn't say "despise," I'm not really loving this.

The Church - Under The Milky Way

It's funny how a piece of music can locate a spot in space/time, isn't it? I was listening to the local AAA station (KFOG) play "10 at 10", and I heard an Aerosmith song... I instantly knew the year and place I first heard it. Sitting outside my house in North Florida, in a blinding rainstorm, dreading the walk into the house. Wow! {#Meditate}

For me it's 9th grade in South Florida... hanging out at my best friend's house.  This seemed to fit into our attempt to be more "alternative" than all the (so we thought) clueless kids who were only into Miami bass.  If I recall correctly though, this was a VH1 staple at the time... perhaps not so alternative.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - American X
(Mar 31, 2011 - 13:48)
Not really my cup of tea (thought this was Bon Jovi for a moment), but seems I am in the minority.  What am I missing...?

Vince Guaraldi Trio - Linus and Lucy

The Decemberists - Don't Carry It All
(Mar 25, 2011 - 11:41)
Just turned this on and thought it was that Tom Petty song where he's singing about rolling another joint... until I heard the voice.

The Shins - Australia
(Mar 24, 2011 - 09:48)
This song improves my mood on what seems like the billionth rainy day of this year... 7

Yo-Yo Ma - Simple Gifts (w/ Allison Krauss)
(Mar 03, 2011 - 12:18)
Beautiful version of this song!

Talvin Singh - Butterfly
(Mar 01, 2011 - 10:15)
At times I like this kind of stuff... but right now I'm already working under pressure and it's making me more jittery...

Pink Floyd - Us & Them -> Eclipse
(Feb 15, 2011 - 09:43)
Just seems somehow appropriate with the weather here this morning...

Crooked Still - Henry Lee
(Feb 08, 2011 - 16:11)
This song actually makes me feel like the album cover looks... seasick.

Richard Thompson - Easy There, Steady Now

I think so too.

Los Lobos - La Bamba
(Feb 03, 2011 - 11:44)
Wouldn't the Ritchie Valens version be more appropriate for today?

Roy Buchanan - Sweet Dreams
(Jan 19, 2011 - 13:19)
Nice, but I'd love to hear the Patsy Cline version too!

The Tallest Man on Earth - I Won't Be Found
(Dec 15, 2010 - 10:01)
And I thought Bob Dylan had an obnoxious voice...

Leonard Cohen - So Long, Marianne
(Dec 13, 2010 - 17:04)
In response to the previous posters...
  1. I gave it a 6, bringing it up to a 6.9
  2. His voice sounds TOTALLY different to me.

Beck - Earthquake Weather
(Dec 10, 2010 - 13:43)
The name of this song makes me nervous.

(check my location)

Cab Calloway - Minnie The Moocher

This song is the bane of girls named Heidi... they hate hearing that.

Ray Charles - Let's Go Get Stoned
(Dec 08, 2010 - 13:33)
I think Ray's got the right idea... sounds good to me!

Roger Miller - King of The Road
(Dec 08, 2010 - 12:08)
Now why can't there be "rooms to let for 50 cents" these days?  Heck, I'd settle for a room for $500...

The Beatles - I'm So Tired

 jedley wrote:

Sometimes I miss George even more. Think of all the stuff he had backlogged that would have - SHOULD have ended up on Beatles records if Paul hadn't been such a prima donna, insisting on his various fluff-fests, e.g. Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Hello Goodbye, Obla-Di-Obla-Da, etc.

George had My Sweet Lord, Art of Dying, Awaiting on You All, I'd Have You Anytime in the pipeline as far back as '68.

I know what you mean.  I was 6 when John died - it's not even a vague memory for me.  I definitely remember George dying, though - remember exactly where I was when I heard.  I've always had a real soft spot for George due to "Here Comes the Sun," which we played at my mom's funeral, per her request.  He wrote some real gems.

I don't mean this to be dismissive of John though.  RIP.

Porcupine Tree - Point 3 (.3)
(Nov 18, 2010 - 16:05)
I am also very glad to have discovered Porcupine Tree through RP.  I always think they're some Pink Floyd I never heard before, though.  I can't be the only one...

Grant Lee Buffalo - Fuzzy
(Nov 05, 2010 - 09:55)
For a brief moment I thought this was "Across the Universe."  Nice song, very mellow.

Ray Barretto - A Deeper Shade of Soul

It would be great to hear the Urban Dance Squad version of this!  Not that the original isn't cool.

The Donnis Trio - Tip of the Tongue
(Sep 27, 2010 - 11:15)
I thought it was Eddie Vedder for a minute...

Nice song.

Chemical Brothers - Let Forever Be

Nice song and worth a 7 from the Nottingham jury, but the strapline "how does it feel like?" has me scratching my increasingly sparse bonce. I'm not sure that that sentence makes sense - "what does it feel like?" would be better. Or maybe I'm missing some subtle point CB are trying to make...

Ditto.

Luna - California (All the Way)
(Sep 21, 2010 - 11:57)
Reminds me of Phish... but not really the Phish I like (old stuff).  I'm kind of indifferent to this right now.

The Pixies - Monkey Gone To Heaven
(Sep 08, 2010 - 09:49)
Despite the screeching, this song grows on me more every time I hear it. 7>8

John Butler Trio - Zebra

Sort of reminds me of that 80s Genesis song, It's a Shame (but this is better).

Buddy Holly - Well All Right
(Jul 30, 2010 - 10:15)
Would have been so great to be able to see him live!  Only the good die young, huh?

David Bowie - Space Oddity
(Jul 28, 2010 - 11:07)
Hmm... I love this song AND the Beastie Boys.  I do wish RP would throw some rap/hip-hop into the mix occasionally - like some Beasties, Jurassic 5, Blackalicious (not 50 Cent, etc).

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell
(Jul 22, 2010 - 12:50)
I have had this song stuck in my head a lot recently - didn't really recall hearing it on RP but probably have.  I think it may have been on "The Princess and the Frog" soundtrack too, maybe another reason why.

Not sure how I feel about it though.... maybe a 6.

Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun
(Jul 22, 2010 - 12:40)
Wow, can't believe the amount of hate this song gets... I guess it's not for everyone.  10 for me, love the Femmes.  It would be nice to hear Add It Up next...

I'll give this song a 9 just because I love the name Dominic...

The Surfaris - Wipeout
(Jun 21, 2010 - 15:36)
This song really makes me want to drum on my keyboard, which would probably drive my co-workers insane (although they'd never complain since they're way too nice...).

Dead Can Dance - American Dreaming
(Jun 16, 2010 - 15:33)
Very patriotic theme going on right now... had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't the 4th of July already...

Camper Van Beethoven - One Of These Days
(Jun 16, 2010 - 14:36)
More Camper Van, please!

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
(Jun 16, 2010 - 13:05)
Guess lunch can wait a few more minutes while I enjoy this song. {#Hungry}

Jesus Jones - Right Here, Right Now
(Jun 16, 2010 - 12:56)
Wow, haven't heard this song in a LONG time.  Wonder what happened to Jesus Jones?

Portishead - Glory Box
(Jun 16, 2010 - 12:25)
I love Portishead.  However, I always get the funny feeling they would sound really great to heroin addicts...

Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Almost Cut My Hair
(Jun 16, 2010 - 11:50)
This song is very dated... although my 3 year old did tell me yesterday someone told him he needed a haircut (his hair is not long, just getting a little shaggy).  I think it was just something that happened in a dream or something though...

Brian Auger's Oblivion Express - Don't Look Away
(Jun 16, 2010 - 10:54)
Don't think I've heard this before - and it's pretty cool.  Not quite sure how I feel about the vocals, but I do dig the piano.

Violent Femmes - Color Me Once
(Jun 11, 2010 - 13:29)
Yay - more Femmes please!

Amy Winehouse - You Know I'm No Good

Her music always makes me wanna watch Mad Men - doesn't she have a song associated with the show somehow?  Or is it just kind of a 60s sound?  I can't remember - too long of a break between seasons with that show.  Anyway, great song!

Bettye LaVette - Wish You Were Here
(Jun 03, 2010 - 16:24)
Did not recognize this immediately - it's ok, but I love the Pink Floyd version so much I can't really go higher than a 4 on this cover.

U2 - Mysterious Ways
(Jun 02, 2010 - 10:48)
I thought this was "Hippie Chick" by Soho at first - would like to hear that (more than this).

Robert Palmer - Sailing Shoes / Hey Julia / Sneakin' Sally
(Jun 02, 2010 - 10:05)
This is certainly a different Robert Palmer sound than the one I associate with him!  (Addicted to Love, Bang a Gong)  Think I prefer this one, although Addicted to Love certainly brings back memories of growing up in the 80s...

Talking Heads - Swamp
(Jun 01, 2010 - 16:03)
I usually like the Talking Heads, but David Byrne's voice is pretty annoying in this one - I'm assuming that's him...

Basement Jaxx - Scars
(Jun 01, 2010 - 15:14)
I had a bad feeling Basement Jaxx was coming on when I heard the comment about "a machine or two might have been harmed during the making of this song."

Now my ears are being harmed...

Gene Vincent - Be Bop A Lula

If I hadn't looked I'd have gone on thinking this was Elvis...

The Cure - Burn
(May 21, 2010 - 14:02)
Love the Crow soundtrack, but have actually never gotten around to seeing the movie...

Shivaree - Goodnight Moon

Ozric Tentacles - Aura Borealis
(May 20, 2010 - 14:48)
Just had a flashback of being at a rave... not necessarily a bad thing (although those days are LONG behind me).  I'll give it a 7.

Ray LaMontagne - Shelter

I'm liking this!  Nice and mellow.

Salsa Celtica - El Sol de la Noche

Pink Floyd - See Emily Play

Bill, you are a mindreader... I had been hoping to hear this song.  Was going to send a request, but why bother when ESP seems to work...

Memories of teenage angst over boys... and the end of the 80s/beginning of the 90s - has it really been 20 years??

yeah!  this song needs to get played more often!

Ry Cooder & Manuel Galban - Echale Salsita
(May 06, 2010 - 10:14)
Very nice... muy suavecito.

Gogol Bordello - Pala Tute
(May 04, 2010 - 11:19)
I seem to feel differently about this band every time I hear them... sometimes they're kind of fun, sometimes more annoying.  Today it's somewhere in between...

Elk City - Close To Me
(May 04, 2010 - 11:01)
I prefer the original...

Coldplay + Buena Vista Social Club - Clocks
(May 03, 2010 - 14:12)
I don't think these two groups should have merged for this... separately they're both much better.  I'm not a huge Coldplay fan at all, but I like the original version of this song a lot better.

Yeah, I'd love to hear some from "A Picture of Nectar" - the cd that started my Phish love.  The only band I came remotely close to "following" - but I know seeing 3 or 4 shows in a row isn't really following, to the hardcore... does it help that I didn't shower for several days during that time period?  {#Stupid}

Phish - Sand
(Apr 30, 2010 - 10:32)
Liking the aquatic theme of the last few songs... but how did AfroCelts fit in?  (I wasn't listening at that point so not sure if the song had a "fishy" theme.)

Jimi Hendrix - Castles Made Of Sand

Please play more Jimi!

Basement Jaxx - Day of The Sunflowers - We March On (feat Yoko Ono)
(Apr 14, 2010 - 16:33)
My ears would be grateful if RP stopped playing this song.  I have a hard time giving out 1s, but this one merits it...

That is definitely too bad, but I am glad to hear it wasn't substance abuse issues... for some reason that's what I was thinking, but I may be confusing them with other bands.

John Lennon - Steel And Glass

Pink Floyd - Us & Them -> Eclipse

The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun

I looove this song so much although it's a bit bittersweet... played it at my mom's burial.  Kind of good timing for hearing this since yesterday was the 16th anniversary of her passing.  It always makes me tear up a little.  But what a beautiful melody.

Morcheeba - The Sea
