It suddenly struck me that she sounds a bit like Buffy St. Marie, who had a hit song The Circle Game (written by Joni Mitchell) in the late '60s. Bulat's voice, and even the music itself is an echo.

Ms Bulat may be another of those very fine songwriters whose voice annoys many of her listeners. I find myself looking forward to some future artist's cover of this song. But it is really a strong and deep song!    8 from me.

Funny, the last song played (spoiler alert) on August 2, 2011 was Joan Baez, Diamonds and Rust, and people complained about the vibrato on her voice. On this song, the vibrato is waaaaay too much and I have to not listen. However, just because it's not my cup of tea doesn't mean it's not good teat for others - so I don't vote on songs like this.

I could see that. Funny, a few numbers ago I was moaning about a Be Good Tanyas song where the singer sounded like she was standing on an earthquake simulator, so strong was her vibrato. Basia Bulat's vibrato's just as strong yet I love her voice and this song. Inconsistent, or what? I just love that cover photo, too. Yes, vibrato can be a pita; I had to leave (escape) a concert with Buffy Saint-Marie performing,  just 2 years ago. This is a cut above, though imho.
