Typically awesome and incredible! I was just craving hearing this mind-bending meditative trip today, and -- voila! Thanks, RP! Bob gave us some of the coolest, most laid-back subtle guitar jamming ever; his voice was often pure silk, to boot; his songwriting alive and divine...

It's all a bit depressing today, I dunno why, probably post Christmas blues, 2nd day back at work, yuck. This song is really not helping. which probably means its a good song.

Sigh, wish the sun would come out. it's supposed to be summer.

These are good comments-this album in particular is very trance-like and, I hate to say this, somewhat new-ageish{#Eh}

Ah, still feeding my jones for mid-career FM. I've been listening to "Future Games" "Kiln House" "Mystery to Me" and "Heros Are Hard to Find" recently. Funny how a craving for certain albums comes upon you.

I've always thought Christine McVie and Bob Welch complemented each other very well, wish we had some insight into their work together in the studio as we do for Lennon/McCartney.

People, I have to agree with Stingray, this doesn't sound like Fleetwood Mac at all! I can say that for sure, I've listened to (probably) all their albums and I couldn't find 2 albums (or even 2 songs) that are alike. So yes, Stingray, if you listened to ALL the other songs by Fleetwood Mac EXCEPT this one, you won't know it's theirs.
This band was so creative and changed their sound so often that it doesn't have a sound of their own. Pretty impressive, huh? They shaped music as we know it. This song is from the pre-Rumours era, Rumours being their most successful album to date. But don't let the numbers fool you, I like Future Games at least as much as Rumours.
They are not your regular Bieber pill, but a very resourceful musical band. That's why they were so successful both in the early 70s as in the late 80s... continuing with the 90s to the present day.

YES!  There it is again, that spooky ebb and flow, like breathing, that infuses every song Bob Welch ever put his mind into. It comes in, weaves around, dances from side to center and then to side again, and then sneaks off into something else, someplace else, but still keeps us attached, with choruses and chants and whispers that call to us, and then our own minds begin to wait and long for that jam again, and then there it comes, here it goes, and there it goes, and here it comes, and it is always so nice to hear it and be in touch with it again and that is thanks to RP...

Saw Bob Welch in his band, Paris after he left FM. His band opened for Nektar...in a strange, strange concert in STL.

Now what was on that little "dot" of paper?

Future Games is the fifth studio album by British rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1971. It was their first album with American guitarist Bob Welch and the first to feature Christine McVie as a full member. The band had a few meetings with Welch and decided to hire him without actually playing with him or listening to any of his recordings. Welch was tasked for the role of rhythm guitar, backing up lead guitarist Danny Kirwan. It was felt that having an American in the band might extend Fleetwood Mac's appeal in the States. Welch eventually went to live in the band's communal home, a mansion called Benifold, which was located in Hampshire. (Using mobile equipment borrowed fromThe Rolling Stones, the band would record four albums at Benifold: Future Games, Bare Trees, Penguin and Mystery to Me.)<6>

In September 1971, the band released the first Fleetwood Mac album featuring Bob Welch, Future Games, with the title song written by Welch. This album was radically different from anything the band had done up to that point. The choice of Welch seemed to be paying off as there were many new fans in America who were becoming more and more interested in the band. In 1972, six months after the release of Future Games, the band released the well-received album Bare Trees, which featured Welch's song Sentimental Lady. (The song would become a much bigger hit for him five years later when he re-recorded it for his solo album French Kiss. He was backed on the album by Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, and Lindsey Buckingham, who had replaced Welch as the band's guitarist.)

Oh please.  I'm sorry he is no longer with his.  But Bob Welch was a middling and relatively competent pop tunesmith.

He was not some visionary songwriter or dynamic musician.

Some tasty guitar, a great tune and another gem from Fleetwood Mac. So many good songs came from the different variations of the band and with those came the memories. An unfortunate loss of another great guitarist...

Always loved Bob's touch in this multi-morphed group...he was a true visionary, and a talented, creative and groovy person and I am sad to learn of his passing...Thanks Bob for all the brilliance, and to RP for sharing it so well!

Gotta love all the "Buckingham/Nicks killed Fleetwood Mac" comments. "ooh, I was a fan back when they wore diapers and hadnt played any instruments yet" 
I enjoy every version of this group but I can assure you that the beginning wasnt any better than the middle and the latest. Its all good and each has its own flavor. Appreciating a band before commercial success doesnt come with any awards folks.

Bob Welch wrote this song, and wrote most of the songs on this album...  Danny Kirwan wrote three songs on the album, including my favorite song on the album, called "Sands of Time"...

Danny Kirwan was on one more Fleetwood Mac album — Bare Trees — then he got fired from the band while they were on tour for the album...  I seem to remember something about Kirwan going on an acid trip and consequently missing a concert, so they fired him for his undependability...

love this song "Future Games", and the album has some real jewels on it...

I just pulled this album out last night and gave it a listen. You are right - the liner notes say Kirwin penned 'Woman of 1000 Years', 'Sometimes', and 'Sands of Time'.

Such good music.

That's the best part! In fact it fades out too early! Just as it  goes out a riff is started that trails off making me wish I could continue on listening. 

Course I'm an old fart, and do notice concerts now are quite different (in general) from 'the old days'. Nobody seems to 'noodle around' anymore. I don't mean Grateful-Dead-go-on-for-long-long-stretches (which can be good), but just some extended songs with some jamming going on. Maybe the songs today are just too structured.

Stop me before I start talking about the weather....

Great song, but I wish the ending was quite a bit shorter. I have this on my iPod and skip about a minute and a half of the end. By the way, I absolutely love "Show Me a Smile" by Chrisine McVie nee Perfect from this album.

Don't know if there really was a "real" FM.  I love them with Peter Green.  Also really liked this album and Bare Trees.  Kiln House was also excellent.  I thought the first two with Nicks were good and they tailed off after that.  They had so many people go thru the group that they had different sounds in different years.
