I was lucky enough to see the Airplane reunion at The Filmore in SF a decade (or so!) ago...

They opened with this song, and I'm telling ya, I was instantly transported back to that era, with those crazy sounding amps. It rings San Francisco 60's!!!

What an incredible voice... I have seen her shots recording in a studio, several feet away from a microphone, and still this incredible vocal power comes through... 99% of modern vocalists have to be placed less than a foot from a mike to get any power...

much as I love this song and Grace Slick's voice, I have to say that Jim Carey's version in The Cable Guy is one of my favourites..

Literally I am 60 and I concur with you, Hannio.  Anyone that thinks the sixties was crap would of not been welcomed to those free spirited days of bold idealism.  And yes,  I still wear my freak flag proudly.

This studio cut rocks, but the live version on the Monterrey Pop Festival CD is pretty weak.

Janis and Grace, by Jim Marshall

I believe it is only fair, where it displays any photo or illustration, mentioning the author, in this case, the great rock n'rool photographer, Jim Marshall - James Joseph Marshall (February 3, 1936, Chicago, Illinois - March 24, 2010, New York City, New York)

Jim Marshall passed away at the age of 74 on March 24th, 2010. He was one of the greatest rock photographers of all time and captured some of the most iconic images in rock and roll history. This is a quick look back at my encounters with the legend. Follow the link above to see the shots I captured of him at work.

One of my treasured memories of being an 11-year-old kid was having to get up out of bed and tell my parents, who were having a dinner party, to turn the stupid music—this album—down!  Only a couple of years later I realized that this was the coolest album around and I played it endlessly.

Perhaps the worst ever film by the most genius directors ever but the music sure was cool as it is in almost all their films.  Speaking of which it must be about time to check out what condition Kenny's condition is in.

This album outsold Disraeli Gears and Sgt Peppers and The Doors in the first year.
Still speaks to the loneliness of the spirit in a world of falsehoods and misdirections.
