Load up on guns and bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over bored and self-assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word
Hello, hello, hello, hello
Hello, hello, oh
I'm worse at what, what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will be until the end
Hello, hello, hello, hello
Hello, hello
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
Hello, hello
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
Yes
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
A denial, a denial, a denial, yes
A denial

| ch83575 | Posted: Mar 26, 2013 - 08:52 I am with Bill and Kurt on this one... spectacular cover! For the record, I like Tori and Nirvana... and I like this, so there! |

| bacampbe (Irving, TX) | Posted: Feb 22, 2013 - 22:16 Wow, I'm surprised at the comments here. I saw her play this live at the Majestic in Dallas years ago. It sent chills down my spine. IMO this is one of the best covers ever, in the sense of doing something new while respecting the original. For context—I'm not a huge Nirvana fan, but this was my favorite of theirs. On the other hand, my wife is a big Nirvana fan, and I'm pretty sure she agrees with my opinion of the cover. |
| joelbb | Posted: Feb 22, 2013 - 22:13 This is a very compelling version of a turning point song. Serious Nirvana fans should be flattered by it. Gave it an 8. |
| jt1 | Posted: Jan 22, 2013 - 14:45 I find it very surprising that so there are so many negative comments on this, especially here on RP. For me, a cover has to be different to the original - this is certainly different. Of course, being different is not enough in itself. I like this version. It would be enjoyable even if the original had never existed. I think it would be a terrible shame to 'fence-off' certain songs as being unsuitable to be covered, or even to restrict the range and style of covers that can be made for any given song. While we may argue (and many of us do, frequently) about which version of a song is the 'best', I applaud singers and musicians who use their talents to bring something new to an old favourite, or even a song that wasn't done justice by its original singer. So, here's a plea to the musicians and singers out there to consider covers of songs when they feel they can bring something new...but of course please don't stop creating new songs too. |

| lemmoth (NYC) | Posted: Jan 22, 2013 - 14:40 I completely agree with Bill on this one. People are too emotionally caught up in what this song meant to them - and I know it meant an awful lot. So they can't handle a radical interpretation. To me it shows the power of this amazing song's lyrics and melody that it can be completely transformed by another artist while retaining that power and beauty. I've often said that Curt was one of the finest writer's of melodies and lyrics in rock and roll history. Hummable melodies, memorable words. And then that killer band which burst on to the scene with the quiet-loud dynamic, the emotional fury of the instruments and everything else that changed music in the 90's. |

| bam23 (Berkeley) | Posted: Jan 22, 2013 - 14:36 So far as I can tell, the responses to this song/performance are largely driven by the memories of those who associate the original with their perceptions and emotions at specific points in their lives. This is understandable, but it does not therefore make this a crappy song. If it is crappy, it stands on its own (not sure about the imagery here). I don't find it objectionable, but then Nirvana was not a major influence on my life. |
| Sweet_Virginia | Posted: Jan 22, 2013 - 14:36 Lacks passion, or any genuine feeling for that matter (elevator music). This is what made the original so very powerful... |
| oldman (Lost in Northern Virginia) | Posted: Jan 22, 2013 - 14:35 It's Bill's stream he can play what he wants. |

I agree the cover's phenomenally terrible, but this is a tasteless way of expressing your opinion. Just because Kurt's a public figure doesn't make it OK to make light of his depression and suicide. |
