Yeah, ain't we lucky on that count?!  Mr. Robertson's solo stuff far outshines the group efforts.

Comparing this guy with Tom Waits is insulting - Robbie all the way

I think Tom Waits discovered tobacco in preschool.

Robbie's voice is so "limited".....but knowing that,he does well here with very good background singers and a great arrangement.

You seem to be suggesting that this is inferior. No clue why you might think this. It's not The Band, but over time some of that music has not weathered well, whereas I find this album to be excellent.

Never understood the success of "THE BAND" and their
glorified concert-film meant nooothing to me neither!

Same for Robbie Robertson's first album,
I bought for whatever reason right after his "BAND" split.
Just did not like it neither...

Till today!

Like this song a lot and wonder about my weird taste of the past!

EDIT:
Turns out this song is not from his first album! Is that an excuse..?

Cool tune like many of Robbie's.  Had great voices with him in The Band but understands and works well with his own vocal limitations in his solo work.

A spiritual man, and song. Originally from 'The Band' (no bad thing) onto his later, more based in his roots, music,a good listen.
Plays a pretty mean guitar too.

Is the song "Sacrifice" on this album? What an epic tune with Leonard Peltier's voice running through-out! Think RR's solo stuff is great for the most part.
