Blah!

The only problem with your complaint is that this can be stated about nearly anything by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc., that are now in the canon as worthy of play here, but which also were Top 40 in their day. Did this diminish their impact at the time? How about today? If a recording is unusually good, why not play it from time to time? I do not recall hearing it here more than twice before this, and since I rarely hear any other radio, for me it has not been recently oversaturated. Try not listening to all those other venues where you have been hearing it constantly: You might benefit from the reduction in aural pollution. Possibly your mood at the time you wrote this comment influenced your perception.

Talking of seals, you haven't lived until you've had a seal snorting down the back of your neck (or nearly). On a recent kayaking expedition on a Scottish sea loch (Loch Etive) we had frequent 'close encounters' with seals who were as curious about us as we were captivated by them, and they came up right close, within a paddle length. A marvellous experience :)

Back in the day I read an interview with him in a "magazine." He said he liked the fact that his lyrics were open to individuals' interpretations. That was one of the reasons, he said, why he didn't include lyrics in the jacket.

That's why I decided back then that at the very end he says,

No we're never gonna survive unless

We are a little baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaked!

Now I'm older and stodgier I like this better:

No we're never gonna survive
unless we get a little beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!

And Seal's okay with that.

Amazing song - still holds up 20 years later.

Songfacts.com sez the following: "This song was inspired by the crazy events of 1989-90, in particular the fall of the Berlin Wall. The lyrics, "And through a fractal on a breaking wall, I see you my friend, and touch your face again" appears to be a reference to the Berlin Wall coming down." Others think it's about drugs...

Amazing stuff- his voice is great, but it's the Trevor Horn production which takes this away and out of sight.

Remember going back to a friend's house in Manchester just after this came out, and listening to the cd on his new (damn fine) stereo at top whack. I wasn't into Seal, and didn't want to be, but this blew all preconceptions away (there may have been smokeables involved, but I stand by my judgement).

If you have a decent stereo, crank it up and you'll see what I mean.

Blinding track- thank you, Ollie!
