Actually, it is on one of my favorite New Order albums, Power, Corruption & Lies (1983).  :)

Man, this reminds me of some great days in SoCal.  Fresh out of college and dancing our weekends (and weeknights) away, good times...

I tried to convince my 14-year-old son and his buddy that Deadmau5 is a descendant of New Order, but they thought I was crazy and changed the song{#Sad}  I'll try again some day;-)

There weren't that many properly danceable tunes around in those days in the alternative scene - the danceability had been appropriated by the yuprock bands (Bryan Ferry, Spandau Ballet, Human League et al) - so we enjoyed this one to the hilt. It was IIRC top of the alternative charts for the best part of a year, perhaps more, and really made New Order's reputation and fortune.

Ok, it's a bit dated now, and I can imagine that folk the right side of 40 might not 'get it'.

The 90s club kids had to ride on the shirt tails of the 80s dance music because, well, grunge seemed to be all we had and it wasn't danceable so much as moshable.I loved this song and I'm 35, just shy of being 40; I still can't believe so much time has passed. It feels like ten years ago.

And I've never really considered this song to be as powerful of a statement as you've described it. Listening now, I get it.

For the sake of variety it's nice to hear this electronic dance music here on RP. For the sake of memories...ahhh not so much.

A total classic.  It was SO edgy and unique when it came out in the mid 80's.  I think it still holds up if you're in the right mood and looking for some energy and fun! BTW, this whole album is great - one of their best for sure.  Most tracks not as "poppy" as this.

*Love* hearing stuff like this on RP!  We need more dance music to go along with the emo and indie.

Yep, I'll go with that. Except I suppose my comment was in response to this being slated as 'mindless house/dance drivel'. I still take offence at that, just as someone might find the statement 'mindless country drivel' or 'mindless rock drivel' offensive.

Anyway, I love the fact that this track is still worth a listen after all these years and holds fond memories.

Thanks for playing this Bill.  And for all of you that really want to like this, but somehow can't get past a conditioned distaste for synth, watch '24 hour party people.'  It may not change your mind, but you will understand the evolution from punk (e.g. sex pistols) to post punk (e.g. Joy Division, which became New Order).
