I really want to like this song, the music is great, but I just can't get over the whiny, gravelly treatment of the vocals! Why oh why does he have to sing like that? Arrrrrgh!

Another band that should have quit as Legends after two LPs. The hubris of Liam G is beyond ghastly.  Noel G talented, but like a hi fi component, needs matching/pairing carefully.

Oasis owned the UK pop scene for a time in the mid-late 90s, really courting the football hooligan/lad crowd, then quickly blew it with shoddy material, presented with misplaced arrogance.

Delusions of adequacy. Although 'Live Forever ' is one of my all time favs.

I think a lot of it comes down to a matter of opinion, especially the part about Morning Glory being more rocking. I personally like both Oasis & Radiohead, and consider both rock bands. I agree that a lot of Radiohead's newer stuff is more experimental and not what I'd consider traditional rock; because of that, I don't personally like a lot of their newer stuff. Still, though, I'd say their a rock band. But, anyway, to each his own.

Ok, so I did as you suggested, and I'll give you most of those. That's what, half a dozen tunes from half a dozen albums? And there is nothing close to being as balls out as Morning Glory.

So, Radiohead mostly doesn't rock, and the preponderance of what I hear on RP and elsewhere is tortured, poncey colon blow like Creep.

Have you heard "Electioneering", off of OK Computer? That song totally rocks. Great guitar riff, and it's loud & fast. I also love the part in "Paranoid Android" where the electric guitar kicks in (around halfway into the song); it totally rocks, I think.

The Bends had a few songs that I'd consider rock songs - "Just", "The Bends",and "Black Star", which all meet the criteria you mentioned for a rock song - "loud guitars, roaring drums, up tempo".

Pablo Honey, their first album, is their most straightforward rock album, where at least half of the songs would fall into your definition of a rock song...most notably, "You", "How Do You?", "Prove Yourself", and "Ripcord".

Now, these songs just meet your criteria of a rock song; however, what makes something a rock song is very subjective. It's like arguing the difference between rock, hard rock, and heavy metal...each person is going to have a different opinion, and no one is right or wrong. However, using your criteria, I challenge you to go to Amazon & listen to any of these songs and tell me they aren't rock. You may not like them, but they are rock songs.

I'll admit that I've hated Radiohead since the first time Creep oozed out of my speakers from the Edge in Toronto, and 99 per cent of their stuff still sends me diving for the mute button. There are apparently some good musicians in the band but all I can hear is Thom Yorke's caterwauling.

I repeat: Radiohead doesn't rock. Show me an actual rock song by Radiohead --- I keep asking and nobody can come up with one. Listen to Morning Glory before you respond --- that's a rock song.

On the subject of musicianship, for my money the best musicians to emerge in the last decade are in Porcupine Tree. And I can actually listen to them.
