According to the story I heard on the CBC recently, the original acoustic version of this song was a flop when it was released. A producer took the song back into the studio and overdubbed drums and electric guitar. (He did so without S&G's knowledge or approval because they were "no longer a working duo.") The studio re-released it and, well ...

1964, first teenage love with the pain of it ending - then there was this and also the Statler Brothers Counting Flowers on the Wall. Hearing this song always takes me back. Used to be a 10 plus but now I have heard it to much. Down to a 7

Well, he certainly has had a long career, and with his catalog, I'm guessing very few songwriters have prospered better than him.

P.S.-I'm not a Trekkie, but I'm pretty sure you mean "VULCAN".  Can anybody out there from Star Fleet back me up on this?

 More importantly, where are they going? Why do they suddenly look a bit shifty? Why is Garfunkel carrying some lumberjack's shirt? where is the lumberjack? {#Eek}

As a compromise, may I suggest to Bill that he occasionally play the rather nice acoustic (and original) version of this song, from the "Wednesday Morning, 3AM" album?

Peace.  {#Laughing}

This is a 9.  That version would be a 10.
