His best song. I'm not a big fan of his other work because of his 'wining' voice, but in this song it suites the music perfectly.
Nice and laid back{#Whistle}

The perfect soundtrack to Gordon PInsent and Julie Christie's poignant, elderly, tete-a-tete dancing in the Sarah Polley film "Away From Her".

I’ve just read the whole of the first page of posts about this song and “fredriley” makes the only negative comment to be seen. Its not often you  get just one person per page taking a pop at a Neil Young song on Radio Paradise. The man is a genius be it rock, pop or acoustic (grunge, electronic, country or a ballad) he’s performing.

Great songwriter, shame about the voice. For some reason, Neil Young's voice always reminds me of the Hollywood actor, Bruce Dern. I suspect that Bruce can sing rather better, mind.

Such a simple, touching song.  I've loved it from the first listen back in the 90s when the CD came out.

When I hear his songs like this it makes me wistful because he's getting up there in age, and I feel like I've known him my entire life. If I find myself paddling in a canoe on a calm lake looking at my wonderful wife, I'll play this song.

One of the few "modern era" Young songs I can tolerate (I was a BIG fan of his 1st 3 albums)....this is the only "new" (ha- 1992!!) one I can think of that doesn't make me LEAP for the mute button...

Neil doesn't get enough credit for craftsmanship, but this is a perfectly crafted song.  Simple but beautiful melody, heartfelt lyrics without being trite, and almost perfect production.  That guitar is wonderfully evocative of warm summer night dances outdoors in the small towns of mid-America (or Canada, Neil).  Even his singing matches the mood perfectly.  These things don't happen by lightning striking.  They are the result of good writing, re-writing, thinking about production and all of the other things that go into what you hear as the final product.  It's the craft of song-writing and producing, and it counts every bit as much as artistic genius flashing out of the dark.  That doesn't happen very often, but craft can be brought to bear on every effort, and Neil Young has honed his craft over the decades to where it doesn't get noticed, but it's what accounts for his longevity.

Well said RParadise!

....but you still only rate it 9??!!

  I would agree , but believe that it's the natural course of music to fade into oblivion. The Nifty Fifty is in perpetuity only because of MP3 downloads and the like)   Will people be listening to Young, Simon, Dylan, or others of that rare stratification 400 or 500 years from now; will they still be still listening to Bach or Beethoven ?
For the last 120 years each generation has created it's own genius. Desirability is in the eye/ear of the beholder, and while I'm sure longevity has something to do with genius, the elements that influence future generations many not have come into being yet. e.g. grandma didn't want no Wa-Wa round here.

  Just what elements go into musical perpetuity ? I am absolutely positive that at one time there were cave-persons that played wicked reed flutes, but somewhere along the "line," someone brought an electric guitar to jam night. . . .
