Maybe others feel the same way I do about this U2 song....from this period in their career, but after Zooropa, the edge (no pun intended) disappeared from this once-great band's music.  Great singles here and there, but compared to this song.....something went missing. {#Stupid}

The Joshua tree is a plant in the southwestern United States, with sword-shaped leaves and greenish-white flowers grouped in large panicles...

a group of Mormon settlers who crossed the Mojave Desert in the mid-19th century named the plant the Joshua tree, after Joshua of the Old Testament— the forks of the tree reminded them of Joshua's hand raised as he prayed, and also the shape of the leaves reminded them of Joshua's spear...

the name of U2's album, The Joshua Tree, is complicated... first, the entire album has a religious theme... second, the title is a tribute to the global power of the United States... third, the album also shows U2's fascination with American culture, politics, and forms of music...

"Where The Streets Have No Name" is the opening song on the album...  Steve Morse of the Boston Globe described this song as "pilgrims still on a quest; not preachers who claim to have found answers..."  this song characterizes a spiritual quest for meaning...  practically metaphysics...  love it...

I dunno. Maybe they are sick of hearing it. I sure am. However, I would not rate it a 1. I gave it a 7. I think I only downgraded it one notch for extreme radio play.

I can only now start listening to Beatles tunes after a lifetime of avoiding hearing them due to over play.

I dunno...I gave it a 7...I think it's a good song from a good album. But I don't like the band much. When you don't like a band, it's easy to under-rate their songs because hearing them pisses you off. I don't even know why I don't like them much...maybe it was overexposure or a cockiness thing...or the sunglasses... but I don't dislike them enough to give the song a 1. Oasis on the other hand...

Do you even have a clue what the phrase "dustbin of history" means.

Opinions are fine but this band - the one just named "greatest act of the last 25 years" by a vote of the readers of Q magazine - will not be forgotten by history.

Again, you don't have to agree that in your opinion they even deserve mention on such a list, but in the popular mind - and in the minds of respected music critics - they are one of the greatest rock bands ever.  So they will not find themselves in any dustbin anytime soon.

You're missing the point. Tax avoidance/evasion you expect from rich folk, corporations, megabands etc. However, St Bonio is forever moralising about worldwide wealth distribution (remember the Make Poverty History campaign which he fronted?) and striding the world stage with presidents and prime ministers, so his tax avoidance in the country which nurtured him and which most assuredly needs the dosh now that it's been bankrupted by banks is just plain hypocrisy. That's the thing about morals: having them means that you have to be consistent in their application.

Nothing "immoral" about refusing to contribute to governments that mismanage their money. The moral thing to do is "front" an organization that you contribute to that distributes resources directly to where they are needed. Not to the pockets of the middlemen.
