![]() Speaking In Tongues (1983) [ larger cover art ] |
Ah, watch out, you might get what you're after
Cool babies, strange, but not a stranger
I'm an ordinary guy
Burning down the house
Hold tight, wait till the party's over
Hold tight, we're in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house
Here's your ticket, pack your bags
Time for jumpin' overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough, but not too far
Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire
Ah, all wet, yeah, you might need a raincoat
Shape down, dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hundred sixty-five degrees
Burning down the house, huh
Ah, it was once upon a place
Sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work
And, baby, what did you expect
Gonna burst into flames
Ah
Burning down the house
My house, s'out of the ordinary
That's right, don't want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house
No visible means of support
And you have not seen nothing yet
Everything's stuck together
And I don't know what you expect
Staring into the TV set
Fighting fire with fire
Ah

| Bargamon (North Carolina) | Posted: Aug 29, 2012 - 11:07 One of their best! This band had so much left in its tank. |
| ziakut (Right Here) | Posted: Jun 27, 2012 - 14:19 This is not my beautiful home! |
| ziakut (Unmoon) | Posted: Feb 21, 2012 - 14:06 Playin' with matches here. Hey David Byrne...come over here...c'mon...open your mouth. Wait you already did! |
| ThePoose | Posted: Dec 06, 2006 - 10:56 Bill loves Byrnin' down the house. |
| siloco (Tampa, FLA) | Posted: Dec 06, 2006 - 09:29 I was shocked to discover that the Talking Heads final tour was actually their 1983 one. I could have sworn that they last toured in 86' or 88'. You know, as support for Amnesty Int. or something. Too bad. |
| azdcryan (Sunny Arizona) | Posted: Dec 06, 2006 - 09:28 amazing song...phrasing, drumming heavy...great. what a freaking shame that I cringe everytime I hear it for the 12,000,000,000th time. not your fault RP, the damage is done. deeper cuts please? |

I actually enjoyed this track the first few thousand times, but I'm well over it now. Maybe play the live version from Stop Making Sense instead? I completely agree that TH material gets pretty dodgy beginning with the very uneven Speaking in Tongues, and it's a rapidly accelerating downhill trip from that point into the insufferable black hole that is Byrne's post-TH career. However, Fear of Music, Remain in Light, and especially the very fantasmagorical Name of This Band is Talking Heads (esp that thunderous expanded lineup) are all loaded with great stuff. |

| MM (San Diego, CA) | Posted: Oct 02, 2002 - 14:05 Great band with a vast library of material to choose from.. so please give this one a rest! Already overplayed to death on commercial radio. |
| Heathen (Medicine Hat) | Posted: Oct 02, 2002 - 14:02 ARGH!!! Please refrain from playing this crap anymore. I can hear this on my local FM station and I hate that station... |
