The first time I went to Venice and saw the "Ponte dei Sospiri" I could not help but think of this Robin Trower masterpiece.  The last thing you'll see before disappearing into the dungeons..

Great sound - great recording. Pity everyone knows and discusses the artist behind the microphone or guitar, while the artist behind the mixing board rarely gets mentioned.

this song, delivered directly to the brain via a decent set of headphones can still put me into an altered state of reality....... must be the mental version of muscle memory.

It is on Opeth's "Watershed" collector's edition 2-disc set.

They do a very nice cover.

Is this typical of Robins work and would Bridge of Sighs be a good first album to get?

Most would say that the "Bridge of Sighs" album is the best place to start if you are just discovering Trower.

My personal favorite, in fact one of my favorite albums of all-time, is the under rated "In City Dreams" - a very funky, slow simmering late night album.

Give "Falling Star" a spin and crank it up.

Reminded me of "What do you want from me?" by Pink Floyd.

Too familiar.

Thought it was 'David Clayton Thomas' singing and was quite suprised to see that it wasn't, They would have made an interesting duet.

Derivative for sure. When this came out I guess that people still had a hunger for Jimi Hendrix. Robin Trower is no Hendrix but he does get an awsome tone.

A perfect cloudless day at Nags Head in '75, relaxing on the fantail of "The Croatoan" after a surf session with a bowlful of square grouper. Woody puts this on the cassette player and the afternoon seems to stretch on forever.

Bridge of Sighs is also the first of Olen Steinhauer's mystery/espionage series about a police homicide division in an unnamed eastern European country just after WWII. The others are The Confession, 36 Yalta Boulevard, Liberation Movements, and Victory Square. If you enjoy the genre (think high end: LeCarre, Alan Furst), these are excellent.

Grew up with a lot of great sounds floating down from the attic - my brother is also a bassist. At 16 he was crap. Now at 50 he is amazing.

Uriah Heap, Deep Purple, BOC, Zep, Floyd, Grand Funk Railroad. I would sneak into his room and pour over his albums (how I miss double wide album covers). The first album he gave me as a birthday gift, along with his hand-me-down Sears turntable, was Heart's 'Dreamboat Annie' circa 1977. I was 8 years old. To this day I can't help but get transported back to my bedroom with its flowered wallpaper and shag carpet.....

Definative 70's stoner guitar rock. Headphone listening in a cloudy haze.
Not a bad song on the whole album + the great Mr Dewars on vocals.

Actually, vocals on Robin's early stuff including this are sung by James Dewar. A most underrated, soulful singer who left us in 2002.
