Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now
You've got someone to blame?
You said
One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
One love, we get to share it
It leaves you, baby, if you don't care for it
Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's
Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out
Into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One
Have you come here for forgivness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head?
Did I ask too much?
More than a lot?
You gave me nothing, now
It's all I got
We're one, but we're not the same
Well, we hurt each other, and we're doin' it again
You said love is a temple
Love the higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holdin' on
To what you've got
When all you've got is hurt
One love
One blood
One life
You've got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sister
Brothers
One life, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One
One
One
One

| Caipirinha (Brazil) | Posted: Sep 17, 2008 - 16:32 Great song. Wonderful artist. Johnny Cash is one of the greats I wish I had been able see before his departure. |

mZk, I believe in your right to a different opinion on this or any other tune. But listen to Mr. Cash's voice. Can you not here the hurt of a lifetime coming through? Call me sentimental, but the Man in Black often makes me stop and weep. |

| ~Michelle~ (Northern California) | Posted: Jul 16, 2008 - 11:31 I really like J.Cash, but hearing this makes me sad. I don't much like his cover of this tune. I like his older / classic stuff. |

Yeah, I agree, overall. This is one of his better covers, but definitely not his best. Still quite good, though. |

I've got to agree with your choice. In fact, I read an interview somewhere with Trent Reznor where he says he no longer considers it his song -- it belongs to Johnny now. |
| GChevy410 (Seattle, WA) | Posted: May 14, 2008 - 12:27 Better than U2, but then again I have never been too impressed by U2. JC is amazing, but you can tell he is stretching in this cover. Wish he was 40 years old now, and had tried this at 35. Side note: Bono and U2 are amazing because they have been around for 30 years cranking out hits. How long was Johnny Cash around? Just something to think about. |
| casey1024 (Connecticut) | Posted: May 14, 2008 - 12:26 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first time a cover of a song made me reevaluate the original. I'd never really listened to the lyrics until I heard Cash sing them. Now that I know what the song is about, I think it's fantastic and I love both versions I feel the same. This version changed what I thought of the original. I enjoy both now. |
| exeter | Posted: May 14, 2008 - 12:25 Woot! Another 10 for the Man in Black (R.I.P.). |
| mybaldbird | Posted: May 14, 2008 - 12:24 To answer your question Bill: no, that last song sucked. |
| Shesdifferent (Just visiting this planet waiting for the ticket home) | Posted: May 14, 2008 - 12:24 Where's the LRC this awful song again??? |
| xkolibuul (Chuckanut sandstone) | Posted: Apr 13, 2008 - 00:05 No, its not a teleprompter. JC sounds that way because he's doing this cover at an advanced age after performing for decades and his voice is just a fraction of what it once was. But it still grabs me every time. kaz wrote: I love Hurt as an awesome cover that dramatically improves on the original with more passion. This, however, is a disppointing cover of one of my favorite tracks of all time.
It sounds to me like he's reading it off a teleprompter... |

Wow I really like this :D But the original is definitely better. I love the emotion U2 pours into the song. Have to agree with you that Hurt is definitely a better cover by Cash. |

| Waybo (Northern California) | Posted: Oct 07, 2007 - 08:40 Just because JC sings it doesn't mean it's automatically good. It's not just that he had lost his voice at this point. He seems too tired to sing it. Or he doesn't believe in what he's singing. Bono's version is majestic. This isn't, even though it's from one of the great artists of all time. |
| forge (Boynton Beach, FL) | Posted: Oct 07, 2007 - 08:38 Bill's playing a string of songs that are either excellent covers or were covered excellently by others. And there aren't enough ASCII hearts in the world for this one by Johnny. |
