I appreciate a unique voice more than a perfectly tuned trained one.  Roy has soul.  That is essential to good music.  8+

We tend to forget that Roy was one of Sam Phillips' originals at Sun Studios. What an amazing track record that man had.

The best way of getting on with people who don't speak your language is to learn theirs. Apologies in advance if you were aiming at irony.

I've said for many years that one day I'm going to be walking down the street thinking.  Then something is going to click in my head.  It will all come to me in a flash.  Why women think the way they do, why women act the way they do, and why women mystify men so much.  Then...

BAM!!!!!

My head will explode because I'm just a guy and men's brains are not made to handle that kind of information.

Amazing story, it was just meant to be for them to meet and for Bono to write an Orbison song that Orbison performed.

Probably my favourite song of his.

It may not have been written by him, but I think only he could deliver it.

As Elvis and Sinatra demonstrated, you don't necessarily need to write the song to (justifiably) take credit for it.

no, no, no, this song is awful.  Orbisons voice seems to shine in Crying, however in this song it simply whines, and I wont even go into the feminist implications of a grown man droning about a GIRL and perpetuating the idea of female mystery.....
Although I can appreciate your fear that this might be a paedophilic stalker's tale, I doubt it. The words, in the context of pop music, "girl", "woman", "lady", "baby", and many others, are used, in most cases, as metaphoric replacements for, "That woman I love more than anything else", which would be awkward and clumsy to fit into a rhyme, I'm sure you'd agree.

As for his voice sounding whiny, well, that again may be colouring layered on by your fear of the alleged lyrical misuse of the word "girl" in the song. It could also be a problem with the sound system you are using, I can't know, but judging from other comments, his voice seems fine to most listeners. Perhaps if you jiggle a cable? Either that or maybe just chill a bit, it's a pop song and quite a romantic one.
