Unique music.  One can tell a Morphine song from the first notes

"Homicide: Life on the Street" used this song to great effect.

Really have to disagree with those who say that all Morphine songs sound the same.

The songs were good but kind of beside the point - it was just the sound that mattered. I remember Dana Colley playing two baritone saxophones simultaneously for a show-ending version of "Honey White" at the 40 Watt in Athens a thousand lifetimes ago. Awesome.

Where's the Baritone Saxophone intro? It gets ya even deeper into the silky bass and vocal mood of Morphine.

Too short...

  1. this song
  2. Mark Sandman's life/career

Shit.  I think I blew out my crappy work computer speakers on this song.  (One of the benefits of working an IT service desk at night is the ability to rock out with no one around to complain).  Good thing I can just go get more speakers...

One of these days I'm going to bring some speakers from home in and use them.  Twice the size and 4 times the power... Oh yes, there will be jammage...

I have the opposite problem - every time Bill plays one of their songs, I get TOO into it, and nothing else gets done because I'm too busy playing air-sax and dancing.  I just love this band.

Well, I'm glad Bill likes Morphine and plays 'em. I only saw them once at the Warfield in SF. A few months later I got my first tat at Triangle in Ft Bragg. A pretty simple monochrome adaptation of an old sumi skeleton  figure. Mr G was working on more complex stuff so I got the young apprentice recently up from the City. As we began he asked me if I minded if he played some music. I said: "what you got?" He replied a band called  Morphine. I said, wow, just saw them a couple months ago etc. We got along just fine and he did some really nice gradations that represent the brush strokes in the original art. Nice job.

The bonus is that when folks ask me if it hurt to get a tat I can say: nope, not a bit. I had Morphine!

Be well and prosper,
Marcus
