I was never a Squeeze fan, and I don't like this song at all. I really didn't like pop music in the 80's at all. I listened to Bach for the decade.

I've always loved Squeeze.

Back in the '80s, I found a lot of the music to be bloodless and cold (which was in style I guess).

Bands like Squeeze and XTC were more to my liking.

I agree Squeeze is a tight focused band whom takes advantage of their opportunities on tour. However, their  body of work stands on it's own in my opinion. They have a definite tongue in cheek point of view for much of the work but none the less, they are a tight, clever, talented, songwriting group.

As for Squeeze, I wasn't much of a fan until I saw them open for Elvis Costello on his first US tour. They were a tight, workman-like band who made the most of their 45 minutes, so I have at least respected them for their professionalism.

Not at all fred, if you don't like them then not listening to them is good for you. Music is totally and completely subjective, who is to say what is "good" or not? What is good is whatever you like and what is bad is whatever you don't like, same goes for all of us. How is that for a definition?{#Lol} BTW, I happen to really like this song and Squeeze in general, but to each his own!{#Cheers}

Yeah, ain't it great!  I saw this played live the year it came out from about 5 feet away (Duffy's in Mpls.—-about 50 people there).  It'll never get better than that for a live music experience.

I also used to have this on a 45 rpm vinyl record (which of course we just used to call a 45 before they became extinct in the 1980's).  Wish I still had it.
Here's the orig. album:

And here's the 45 sleeve (US version):

Clifford/tillbrook were (are) outstanding pop  song writing duo.  Clever, witty catchy, memorable but not tiresome.  Even after all these years.

Turned out there was a music festival that day, so I spent the day at my excellent window vantage point, grooving on the line-up, which also included the Average White Band, and drinking warm Belgian beer. Magical.

It's odd how nicely Difford and Tilbrook's voices harmonize even though neither voice on its own is anything special, to put it mildly.  Nice song, then and now.

Also, "Argybargy" is one of the better album titles ever.
