I first discovered Cake live, before they "made it". That show, however, soured me on them since: perky tunes accommodating inappropriate, cynicism, emotives, and expression. Nevertheless, I still find their tunes to be catchy, and yet a sense of (my own) humor in them.

Ohhhh -THANK YOU, Hodgie! Cake seems to get the same reaction as They Might Be Giants or Devo. Me?  I love the hell outta them, because they're so deadpan. (I think they're flower-child/conspiracy-theorists, which definitely presents a whole new element to the listening experience...)

I fear that anyone who's watched "Chuck" will forever associate this song with the show.  I'm trying to separate myself from that mistake - Cake is a good band, with or without the television show. But dang - I can't help it, with this song... I perk up and remember a favorite scene from the show.  And I had NO idea that Zachary Levi could sing, but he's quite good.  In fact, the cast of "Chuck" seems to be a bunch of hidden talents. (Refer to my previous post about the episode "Africa.")

I want a woman with a short skirt and a loooooooooong......jacket. Gee - wonder why? {#Devil_pimp}

I just hope the show resolves the latest story arc ("Mom") before hanging up the Intersect for good.  There seemed times when the show was brought back from death's doorstep only by virtue of fans complaining. (Also, I get tired of mixed comedy-action-romance shows that lose their humor over time. The thing that draws me to shows like Chuck often get taken away by the third season.)

First time I've heard the song w/ words. ;-)

I LOVE Cake, but have to say that this tune is overplayed. How about something that doesn't get radio play, like Opera Singer, or Pretty Pink Ribbon?

Yvonne Strahowski - I catch myself trying to imitate her grin.  Well, no way I'ma imitate her in a short, tight red dress, so the grin will have to do.  But Chuck - to those who've never seen it, rent it on DVD. It's one of those shows that will ambush you with delight when you least expect it.  My favorite moment was "Africa."  Those who've seen the show will understand.  Those who haven't will just have to watch it. And to this day, I can't listen to Toto's version of "Africa" without remembering the geek-version and its redemption in the end.

Agreed!  I've been watching "Chuck" since its inception. It started out sorta dorky, but it's gotten darker, more intelligent, and even a little more unnerving.  And I love this song as the theme. Geeky, fun, totally incomprehensible and absolutely wonderful.

"Chuck" has been renewed for another season. (Ghost Whisperer, which I'd thought would be a no-brainer, was cancelled. Proof that the networks know absolutely NOTHING about anything other than the almighty dollar.)

Um - okay. Back to the music.  Cake flips my switches. I can't explain it. I hear a song by them and I either grit my teeth and try very hard not to write something scathing, or I just do the dancing-banana icon and go with it. Maybe that's why I love this band. There's no middle-ground for me, and that works.

I don't hate Cake. Cake is fine. This is just monotone though, and the music is annoyingly repetitive.

But yes, Chuck is cool. So it gets an extra point for making me think of Yvonne Strahovski.
