Another great track from an album almost as significant as OK Computer. Brilliant production and Beck exorcising the demons of his long-term failing relationship.
I particularly like the drawl.

I saw him at Wolf Trap in Northern Virginia when he toured on this record.

I don't mind Beck's stuff, but don't see the supposed genius of his work. And listening to the lead in to this makes me wince. Played off key on a poorly tuned piano.

Wow, I never knew this, but The Cinematics did a cover of this song on their album "A Strange Education." That version is way better than this one, if you ask me. CRAZY!

Doesn't Beck play all his own instruments?  Just as affected as the mumbled vocals, and works perfectly.  Even if it isn't to your tastes, you have to admire Beck's production vision at work here.

this is so dichotomous. This is one of the best songs on the album. Its crazy how all the scores on this album are backwards with my opinion. Maybe I just don't have good tastes. I give this a 9

I gotta admit - he sounds like he's singing with pebbles in his mouth. The whole album is lugubrious and somewhat self-absorbed. Then again, he's still very young.

I also think he has not yet had a real artistic breakthrough. Not a big fan of his and I'll continue to wait for him to find a distinct musical voice - he don't got it yet. Does nothin' for me. Gave it a 4.

I really think Beck was more than a little remiss in not giving NIck Drake at least an acknowlegement in the liner notes.....I mean the guy is dead, but it shouldn't be an excuse to so blatantly rip off a bleeding chunk of the little that Drake left behind. I really was a solid Beck fan until he did this scuzzy move....I wish I never bought the CD and had downloaded it instead. It also now makes me suspicious of what else he may have consciously passed off as original. The whole CD stinks ....and if you want to give anyone an argument about it I suggest you listen to Drake's "Way to Blue" first. Edited By virago at 2:05 pm on 2/13/2003
