Sounds pleasantly in tune to me. A tune I like a lot.

You usually sit with the cora in front of you on the floor, neck pointing away from you. Never heard of anyone playing one standing, but hey, it's all rock and roll....

WONDERFUL BAND - INCREDIBLE ALBUM (why always Wassiyè...?)
filled with gem after gem!

Mali' finest - and there are plenty great bands and singers,
male and female!

Boubakar "Kar Kar" Traore and Rokia Traore for example.
Not to forget "Zap Mama" - though they are a bit of another story!

PS
...and what about "GIGI" from Ethiopia?

Anybody know what that might be?

Habib Koite - "Wassiye" Live:

featuring "Wassiye" from the Putumayo World Music Africa compilation.

I have always understood that the music of African ethnicity, or any other continent, should not be understood or used only to serve as a "tab" of a musical sequence. It is to be lived and experienced as a musical style with greater relevance. No reservations or prejudices.
Otherwise, it's like visiting the zoo at the weekend, to see rare birds.
Habib Koite is one of the examples (there are many more*) of the extraordinary quality of this musician and singer came from Mali, ability to improvise, high sense of the combination of rhythm, capable of competing with the best music that is produced in Europe, UK and the US.
By the way, a word of congratulations to the RP Team, to include regular in their programming music of African ethnicity, and beyond, (not so much as I wanted, but ....) promoting the quality of music coming from around the world, and waking up with some minds addicted to urban music and electronics.

(*) Bob Marley, Cesaria Évora, Astor Piazzolla,  Inti-Illimani, Mercedes Soza,  Youssou N'Dour, Ismael Lo, Ali Farka Toure, Miriam Makeba, Maria de Barros, Mayra Andrade, Los Incas, Los Indios Tabajares,  Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Manuel Galban, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ravi Shankar, Afro Cuban All Stars, Rubén González,  Ibrahim Ferrer, Eliades Ochoa,  Manu Dibango, Orchestra Baobab, Habib Koité & Bamada, Geoffrey Oryema, Hugh Masekela, Waldemar Bastos,  Federico Aubele, Amadou & Mariam, Angelique Kidjo, Nancy Vieira, Te Vaka,   Strunz & Farah, S.E. Yes, we need more African music for sure, though this - Habig Koité - is not "Juju". "Habib" is from Mali, where more good bands originate from, thatn most of us can even imagine. "Habib" is a master of his (Griot-)art and a superstart in Mali, in Africa, in France (due to their many African inhabitans)and other European countries. But, surely, still way-way underrated, for no reason at all. He got three albums out so far (plus a LIVE-album) and all three are gorgeous in the real sense of the word. When realizing what bullshit his Afircan "brothers" at the US West- and Eastcoast are doing - stuff called RAP (indeed this and nothing more!!!!)- "Habib" can be proud to a real musician, not one of those "stinkers" selling T-shirts, wearing a pound of gold and let the drum-machine do the rest. Truely amazing that the masses are that stupid, naive and uneducated. No wonder RP does not need any RAP to play good music. I saw "Habib" playing live in Bamako - I knew years before that, though - and it was truely one of the hottest show I have ever seen. Thanx RP for knowing and making the difference...! That reminds me, I still haven´t paid "my dues", despite two promises.... bad from Germany,
Stingray!

It's because of tunes like this that I am a proud supporter of RP!

Habib's music always makes me smile. A real cherub he is, and his concerts are unparalleled. Great for the family, not too loud and dancing to the side for the little ones.

If he's playing anywhere w/in a two hour drive, I would go in a heartbeat.
