![]() Ten (1991) [ larger cover art ] |
Sheets of empty canvas
Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
As her body once did
All five horizons
Revolved around her soul
As the Earth reaches the Sun
Now, the air I tasted and breathed
Has taken a turn
Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands
Chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
All the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter
So why do I sear?
Mm, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning
How quick the Sun can drop away
And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad
Turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be, yeah
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Woo
I know that someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why, why, why can't it be
Why can't it be mine?
Ah, yeah
Uh, woo-hoo

Sorry Smith fans. However, though this tune is largely a repetitive lead line, it is captivating. Perhaps the chord changes, but it is relentless and moving, like the Cash version of Hurt. Far from PSD, I pressed the up volume button. Hmmmm........ |

The Ten album is one of their great masterpieces, but if you explore other albums in their discography they have many more gems such as No Code (their most eclectic album), Yield, Binaural, and Riot Act! In my humble opinion they are one of the best rock and roll bands in the past 20 years! |

They have consistently put out great rock and roll for the last 20 years. With 5 songwriters that draw on a wealth of influences they have explored a wide range of styles. They are the most amazingly tight outfit in rock and roll leading to their rep as the best live rock and roll band on the planet. |
