There must be some kind of planet
For all the people who can manage
All of us who can handle it
With all of this damage
All of us
All of us sing about it
All of us
Sing about it
There must be some kind of message
Simple but somehow impressive
Anyone who can think of something
Come on now just express it
There must be some kind of planet
For all the people who can manage
All of us who can handle it
With all of this damage
All of us
All of us sing about it
All of us
Sing about it
All of us
All of us sing about it
All of us

Because they can get so remote from their roots that their material becomes bland and generic. Because major success brings enormous pressures to tailor their output to 'audiences' to increase sales. Because they can become ruled by record corporations looking to blandify the 'product'. Because they get 'recuperated by The Spectacle', their rebellion and edge removed, repackaged in acceptable formats, and resold to the very streets it came from at a hefty premium. "What other kind of success is there?" You do have a very limited view of life. Money isn't everything, nor does every artist think that it is. Or even every ordinary person. |

Broke, penniless, obscure, sitting-on-a-street-corner-busking success? Some group performing for their cats, dogs, friends and relatives only? Is that success? Is there a music scene that I don't know about that has performers who do not want their music to be appreciated, and who do not want to be remunerated? How do these notions get traction? It's a freaking pose. Don't be so gullible. No. They mean that the fact that they get a lot of airplay means, to some, that they suck. It's a hardship most good bands live with. I could list a dozen bands with amazing catalogues that are cursed because, for the mere fact that they are good, they are panned by the critics, particularly this bunch of critics. A band that succeeds must be crap or must have sold out, the quality of thier music means little compared to our ability to say they suck. |

They certainly have an appealing sound (to me, anyway); their songs are really catchy. The ones I hear on RP (Bill's filter Rules) I generally rate high. I vaguely recall them from their day but was too preoccupied to notice then. Now that I have the leisure to appreciate them (and all the other RP fare), I count TDW among my favs. How can a band be cursed by commercial success? What other kind of success is there? EXACTLY! PREFECTLY TRUE! This is how it sounds and feels like! VERY DISAPPOINTING SONG! TRUTH IS: "BOHEMIAN LIKE YOU" is a song anybody dreams about writing. A SUPERHIT (so-to-speak) and part of my ALL-TIME TOP-10 SONGS - EVER! TRUTH IS FURTHER: The band has another 2-3 VERY GOOD and a small (!) handfull of reasonable songs. THE ULTIMATE TRUTH IS: ALL THE REST IS RATHER SHITTY and very-very Somervillish-kinda-bull! MY TRUTH IS! I STILL LIKE THEM AS A BAND! |
