Us, and them
And after all we're only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's noz what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end it's only round and round.
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.
"I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short,
sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off
lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
don't cost nothing do they, eh?"
Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.
--
The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
"I can't think of anything to say except...
I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!"
---
All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."

| Jack_Jefferson (Columbus, OH) | Posted: Mar 01, 2013 - 06:43 I think this week marks the 40th anniversary of the release of 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Not sure if this was planned that way or if this just happened to be in the rotation at this time. |

| Wardleader (Philadelphia USA) | Posted: Oct 28, 2011 - 22:27 The purity of the sound, the sparse warbling, the endless drift of bending lines around into new spaces, is it the song I think it is? It is inconsequential non sequitors, all together that bring me to another relaxation moment away from the severity of life, at any particular time of my life, since I first heard it some many years ago. So, if it is or is not a classic that will be listened to or forgotten 100 years from now or 500 years from, it made its artistic and emotional monument with me, with my many friends and that is good enough. Let other people and other times make the most of their era, as I have with music from the dark side of the moon. It doesn't hurt to hear this after 1am east coast time. Thanks for the vibe. |

Hardly. Nobody and nothing is above criticism, including Floyd. IMO sacred cows should be slaughtered and roasted as a matter of course, even those cows I worship. Feel free to put the boot in, but be prepared for emotional responses. Similarly, writing that the Beatles were sh1te is permissible, nay encouraged, but will wind a lot of folk up. |

You would think this was just released considering the amount of airplay it is getting. I get your point and sympathise, even though I love this album. Funny you should write that, though, because Floyd have just released a 'collectors edition' of Dark Side with all sorts of song versions on it, for the Floyd connor-sewers. At £45 a pop I'll not be getting it, but I'm sure it'll sell bucketloads to the nostalgic middle-aged. |

Given the current state of the record industry, and the blinkered and frantic short-termism of record companies, I doubt that it would have been recorded in recent years :( The word 'classic' is much misused for rock music, and I avoid it when I can, but this album can rightly claim to be a classic, and I fully expect people to be listening to it a century hence. I've heard it scads of times but have never become tired of it. I've always liked the background voices which make me chuckle: "there is no dark side of the moon, matter of fact it's all dark" :) |
