After that confrontation, you left me wringing my cold hands
We shared some information we might not recover from
And I watch your convictions melt like ice cubes in an ocean
You were so poorly cast as a malcontent
You've got them all on your side, that just makes more for doubt to slaughter
I never knew he thought that, I heard you say, falling out of the van
Don't ask for his opinion, they ought to drown him in holy water
Will you remember my reply when your high horse dies?
We'd like to go the distance but not a one of us is going
You see, nobody's wise enough to turn this ancient boat around
These are the muddy waters I'm swimming in to make a living
That I might drown in them should come as no surprise
You want them all on your side, that just makes more for doubt to slaughter
I never knew he thought that, I heard you say, falling out of the van
Don't ask for his opinion, they ought to drown him in holy water
Will you remember my reply when your high horse dies?
You've got them all on your side, that just makes more for doubt to slaughter
I never knew he thought that, I heard you say, falling out of the van
Don't ask for his opinion, they ought to drown him in holy water
Will you remember my reply, one finger parallel to the sky?

| franta | Posted: Jul 19, 2010 - 13:21 Painful to hear. Really can't stand this stile and whiny voice. |
| rdo (DC) | Posted: Mar 14, 2010 - 13:31 I always liked the Shins, especially after their first 2 albums. I have an embarrassing confession to make however in that I actually sold my copy of this CD before I started listening to RP. Now, hearing them regularly on RP has caused me to reach for the 10 rating for nearly every one of their songs, particularly after their most recent and truly incredible album. Which all goes to prove that Bill is a master who really knows what he is doing. |
| jonrox (Calgary) | Posted: Nov 08, 2009 - 23:43 Great song, the lyrics are so incrediblly off the wall. The whole album is so upbeat, and the video with the penguins is brilliant! |
| westslope (BC coast) | Posted: Jul 05, 2009 - 12:10 So this is the Shins, eh? Hmmm.
BTW, there is some very strange formatting happening to this web page. |
| venus_df (Chattanooga, TN) | Posted: Dec 27, 2008 - 17:37 just listened to this album again on a road trip... it's one of those perfect albums, imho. not a dud in the whole set. i love singing along. this will be a record my kids will enjoy, as one of Mom's old records that they share with their friends. at least that's how i see it. so clever and self-deprecating, and musically sound too. love it. |
| vtparadise (the green mountains) | Posted: Oct 25, 2008 - 13:56 The Shins are cool, but this one has me thinking about when the last time I had my teeth cleaned... |

For the brief time I worked in college radio, our running joke was to cut off songs we thought stank and say "That was -insert band name here-. A fine group but they do not seem able to end a song properly." Granted a) it was college radio, b) it was 2am-4am Saturday overnight, and c) we were totally in the bag. |
| glassjawgrlxxx (Boston) | Posted: May 03, 2006 - 11:46 Quite likeable |
| Pecpec | Posted: Mar 20, 2006 - 15:57 Once ate chicken shins in Karpathos and got diarrhea for three weeks. Good song anyway. |

I fell in love with these guys watching "Spongebob: The Movie". Oooooo Noooo. Did I just say that? Oh well... |

| ArbiterOfGoodTaste (Seattle WA) | Posted: Oct 10, 2005 - 15:12 The Shins are very much their own thing. Nothing quite like them, in my book. |
| elokin2141 (lancaster, PA (no i'm NOT AMISH)) | Posted: Aug 12, 2005 - 11:40 Love this band |

I like this song much better now. :) I sort of agree with the last two posters. I bought it when it came out, listened to it a few times and then filed it away. Recently I loaded it up on my MP3 player to take on vacation. Listened to it a few times and now I am hooked. Fantastic CD, can't recommend it enough. |

| timandjuliet (Colorado, USA) | Posted: Mar 03, 2005 - 14:30 Really thought this was They Might Be Giants until I looked (and even then...). Dig it regardless |
| beelzebubba (Where the hell is Walldrug, South Dakota?) | Posted: Mar 03, 2005 - 14:30 Wow. Heard a Shins song on RP earlier today and I totally thought it sucked. But I'm lovin this. |

Both of their albums are really good actually...if not a lil short, but that seems a common problem lately with new releases, oh well, at least The Shins are good unlike many of the other new releases they call music on MTV |
| mig7 (Minneapolis, MN) | Posted: Sep 07, 2004 - 12:31 Strongly recommend this CD! |
| moomatz | Posted: Apr 24, 2004 - 01:28 Like the blend of the slight grunge of the 90's with the 80's synth. Nice composition. Nothing much out of place. Lyrics are easily understood and felt. Again, thank you Bill... |
