People I know, places I go
Make me feel tongue tied
I can see how, people look down
They're on the inside
Here's where the story ends
People I see, weary of me
Showing my good side
I can see how, people look down
I'm on the outside
Here's, where the story ends
Ooh here's, where the story ends
It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
Oh I never should have said, the books that you read
Were all I loved you for
It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year
Which makes me wonder why
And it's the memories of the shed, that make me turn red
Surprise, surprise, surprise
Crazy I know, places I go
Make me feel so tired
I can see how people look down
I'm on the outside
Here's, where the story ends
Ooh here's, where the story ends
It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
And who ever would've thought, the books that you brought
Were all I loved you for
Oh the devil in me said, go down to the shed
I know where I belong
But the only thing I ever really wanted to say
Was wrong, was wrong, was wrong
It's that little souvenir, of a colorful year
Which makes me smile inside
So I cynically, cynically say, the world is that way
Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise
Here's, where the story ends
Ooh here's, where the story ends

| chatelainedc | Posted: May 16, 2013 - 20:42 ah, I was in college in Santa Barbara when this came out in 1990 leading quite a lovely, rather naive, charmed life. Amazing to hear it 23 years!? later with a bit of experience. ;) |

| coloradojohn (A Mile High and then some, Cherry Creek, Denver) | Posted: Feb 11, 2013 - 17:49 I think it's one of the finest symphonies of strings and mercurial, powerful, sultry vocals; impeccable stylings, with finest solid production, ever. And this will forever be that little souvenir of the year that I first heard this: just back from Japan the first time, just back to ski-bum in Summit County for the second time, and -- by no means did the story end -- and I love how it still doesn't...Thanks, RP for playing this! |

| kingart (Brooklyn NY) | Posted: Mar 08, 2012 - 13:55 Love the song. The melody is very sweet and seductive. The vocalist sounds very little or nothing like Edie Brickell. To me, Brickell's voice is fingernails on a blackboard. This lady's voice is far brighter and more emotive. Was the band English? I know nothing about The Sundays, but her inflection — souva-neaha, terrible yeea — sounds UK not US. |
