They have a new album out.

A little more heavy on the reggae.

If you interested give the track "It's All I Know" a try. Warren Haynes guests on it.

I find the sound of the guitar and the chord changes in this song super reminiscent of Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky.

I'll second that - he's got fellow Canadian (and ex-The Phantoms) 'Big' Ben Richardson with him on bass and if anything they're rockin' out even more than Big Sugar did!

Gord has used special effects on his vocals on a lot of the Big Sugar records (and live), but I don't think it's to compensate for his singing skills, or perceived lack thereof. He uses a lot of special effects on his guitar, too.

Gribnif,
I think you're probobly running some sort of
AC3 filter that is distorting your sound. These
guys would never have used autotune even if it had existed. These guys rock hard blues like nobody
else.

This song was recorded on a low budget for an indie label in 1993.

I don't think Auto-Tune software even existed then, but if it did it was in its infancy and probably wasn't used here.

Bill, if you're making any commission on sales through Amazon -- I would think all my purchases alone would keep this station afloat. As much as I love RP -- you're breaking me. And now, another to add to my wide array of music. I'll have to start my own Radio Paradise ala Europe to support my habit! Don;t know what it is, but this ROCKS! They take a raw, heavy, almost punk approach to bluesy rock. They lack they eclecticism of Big Sugar, but I like the album for what it is. Half the songs are re-workings of Big Sugar tunes, so it remains to be seen whether Gordie Johnson has run out of ideas or is simply recharging his batteries.

Second album, actually. Third if you count the limited release live album "EL Seven Night Club", but that was a benefit compilation of many vocalists with an early incarnation of Big Sugar serving as the backing band for all.

I totally agree that they were one of the best Canadian bands around, and this album is excellent from start to finish. So was Hemi-Vision. The other albums are all good, but those two were Big Sugar at their peak.
