Let's hear some more! Jack Casady one of the best bass players in Rock.

I read this the other day in the Wikipedia article on Hot Tuna:

"The band name Hot Tuna came from someone Kaukonen refers to as a 'witty wag' who called out, 'hot tuna' after hearing the line 'What's that smell like fish, oh baby,' from the Blind Boy Fuller song 'Keep on Truckin.' Kaukonen decided it was a good band name and it stuck ever since. Before their debut album was released, their name was seen on the Jefferson Airplane Volunteers album lyrics insert with a mock headline proclaiming 'Hot Tuna! R. Nixon Misplaced. For details see sports section.'"

Here are the lyrics for "Keep on Truckin,'" which is on the Burgers album. They were pretty distorted on the lyrics web site so I listened hard and cleaned up the transcription.

Now keep on truckin' mama,
truck my blues away.
I said, keep on truckin' mama,
truck my blues away.
Here you come baby big as sin.
Tell what you been doin' by the shape you're in.
So keep on truckin' mama,
now truck my blues away.

You been doin' like I think you been doin,
can't do that ‘round here,
I said you been doin' like I think you been doin,
can't do that round here.
Here you come mama big as hell.
Tell what you been doin' by the way you smell.
So keep on truckin' mama,
truck my blues away.

Now what's that smell like fish oh babe,
I really would like to know.
Tell me what's that smell like fish pretty mama,

I really would like to know.
That ain't puddin' baby that ain't pie.
It's the stuff that I got to buy.
So keep on truckin' mama,
truck my blues away.

Yes you gotta leave my house this mornin',
get your yes yes out of my door.
I said yes you gotta leave my house this mornin',
get your yes yes out of my door.
Ashes to ashes, baby, dust to dust.
What you gonna do when that damn thing rusts?
Said keep on truckin' mama,
truck my blues away.

I somehow missed Hot Tuna back when this stuff was new. I must have heard it at parties, but never owned any of it. Thanks to Radio Paradise I've been able to identify, get my hands on and enjoy this extraordinary music, starting with Burgers and The Phosphorescent Rat.

This is good, and has caught my ear today. I've been listening to a lot of Dead lately, and this tune fits in nicely.
