Love to think of myself as a keen listener, also, and I think it's just her way to slide into the note.  The technique works well to 'conjure' up a seriously sexy tone, and has been used for years.

See/hear her (far too few) solo cuts for comparison.  Early Annie Lennox, too, maybe?

One of the things I really enjoy about RP is the way other listeners can share their knowledge and views, the vocal credit for this track is simply Jane, however RP sleuths reveal her true identity as Poe (confirmed by the Amazon review) and I for one now want to discover more about her work.

Damn, I miss POE.  The woman's depth of talent is bottomless and her voice is simply mesmerizing. Certain songs on "Haunted" can nearly move me to tears with her heartfelt passion and emotion. I guess if Conjure One is the best gig she can get right now, so be it; but I long for something new and personal from her.  What a treasure.

well i must admit that i haven't paid attention to the lyrics — but no matter how good they might conceivably have been — what a godawful song!  i heard hundreds exactly like it, broadcast endlessly by trashy radiostations (which RP is certainly not) in taxis around the world...  or am i missing some subtle thing?!  can't say there was room for much subtlety in that song though...
