I don't know what happened to Excelsior; whether he left on his own or Bill kicked him off (although Bill's such a nice guy, it's hard to picture him kicking a member out), it's a mystery. Excelsior didn't leave immediately after Bill's comment, he stuck around for a while. He did not make a comment after Oct 20th, 2008.

I like markoirl's theory of what happened to Excelsior - Bill captured Excelsior in October last year.  After weeks of intensive "re-programming" released him using an abandoned shell user account, Romeotuma.

Well, I do defend free speech, including yours and *ugh* Horstman's.  Interesting analogy to racist comments, though, and I guess you caught me speaking loosely when I said 'welcome,' so I accept your refinement.  My own intolerance is not for politically incorrect speech (like racist remarks) so much as hate speech.  That's why I don't accept Horst:  he's a demonstrable hater of many things.  But I'm a dauntless defender of his right to say whatever he wants to, subject, of course, to BillG's overriding policies.

But this is the first that I'd heard what happened to Excelsior, so your post was fascinating.  Do you know this for sure?  PhysicsGenius fits the description and likewise disappeared mysteriously...

And nowhere is your excellent point more evident than the pages accompanying Porcupine Tree songs. Just try expressing the view there that the music is superficial or that Steven Wilson is a vapid windbag. The place will erupt with zealous attacks on your philistine tastes and demands that you find a new radio station.

I'm not calling for censorship. What bothered me most about your comment was your use of the word welcome, a better word to use would have been tolerated. His comments were not welcome but they were tolerated.

To all RP posters, do you really want me, aka Horstman, to disappear? Is that the general consensus here or the rantings of one Mr. Nate917 who spews his gospel of all things proper RP etiquette?

It is funny how in one sentence he thinks people like me and Excelsior should be removed and in the next sentence he thinks our ideas are as welcome as anyone elses. Sounds pretty conflicted to me.

I've encountered many people like Nate who basically have a "my way or the highway" approach, and quite frankly I don't have the time to waste with such people.

But again, I ask as a matter of RP interest, should I stay or should I go now? And Nate, you needn't chime in, we all know your opinion(s)!

So F'ing what.  All you're pointing out is that you disagreed with him, as did a bunch of other people.  I'm sorry trolls upset you so much, but this is a public forum, and it welcomes both the agreeable comments and the disagreeable ones.  You want to be the arbiter of what's agreeable and exclude all that's not, and that's censorship.  What if someone found your comments nasty?  Should you be booted?  Or do you pretty much get to say whatever you want here — just like Excelsior and everyone else?

Dear Lord.  You mean to tell me that we couldn't even go 16 HOURS before we had to hear this song again?  Doesn't RP supposedly have several thousands of songs at its disposal?  I could hear less repetition on Clear Channel.
