You're too young to know
That you're too young to go
There's no freedom to be found
Lying face up in the ground
Ashes from an unfinished life
Are all that's left
In a tear-drop-shaped locket
Hanging from his mother's chest
You whip the back of freedom
'till it bleeds an oil stream
Then you sail down upon it
In your killing machine
Old men who send children
Off to die in vain
They will hear death's constant whisper
Call remember my name
Gather 'round the stone

I went back over Excelsior's comments, and although they aren't that offensive, they are relentlessly negative and he repeatedly uses the puking emoticon, which I can't stand. I agree with you about hate speech. I think one of the problems with free speech is that many people refuse to use it to stand up to intolerance. People should speak out about it but they clam up and refuse to get involved. This leaves the haters free to spout their bile. That's what makes censorship so enticing, it's easier to go that route that to debate the issue. I don't know if Horstman is a hater, I'd have to go over his comments and I haven't done that. The Post from Bill G can be found on Page 4 of the comments for the song 'Lost Coastlines' by Okkervil River. I don't know what happened to Excelsior; whether he left on his own or Bill kicked him off (although Bill's such a nice guy, it's hard to picture him kicking a member out), it's a mystery. Excelsior didn't leave immediately after Bill's comment, he stuck around for a while. He did not make a comment after Oct 20th, 2008. I like markoirl's theory of what happened to Excelsior - Bill captured Excelsior in October last year. After weeks of intensive "re-programming" released him using an abandoned shell user account, Romeotuma. PS - As for this song...Not Bad - 7 I just stumbled on this in the wee hours of a sleepless night. The page number you refered to is now page 5. Amazingly, Excelsior now has 1,357 songs rated a 1. I'm not a fan of the DD, but sheesh. That's almost as many songs as I have rated total. |

You want to be the arbiter of what's agreeable and exclude all that's not, and that's censorship. What if someone found your comments nasty? Should you be booted? Or do you pretty much get to say whatever you want here — just like Excelsior and everyone else? Oh, by the way, Excelsior is an 11-year-old Asian girl from Columbus who's really good at getting your goat. You're the one who's panties seem to be in a knot. As I said before, I'm not calling for censorship. What bothered me most about your comment was your use of the word welcome, a better word to use would have been tolerated. His comments were not welcome but they were tolerated. I would compare his posts to a racist's comments, which are often tolerated while at the same time despised and disputed. His comments weren't the only issue, the following post is from Bill Goldsmith himself: 'A relentlessly negative RP member has discovered how to spot new tracks that have been added to the library, and has been passing out 1s to songs he hasn't even heard yet, based on his wide-ranging predjudices.' If I see that happen even once more I'll probably start removing his ratings from the displays & calculations.' Not long after Bill's comment (made on Sept 30th, 2008) Excelsior disappeared, he knew the jig was up. So the words and actions of this troll led to his downfall. It wouldn't surprise me if Excelsior was an eleven year old, he/she had the mentality of a child. Have a good day - you defender of free speech. |

Just so we all know just exactly how he feels, and he didn't stop until someone responded to him. A troll, pure and simple, and as the old saying goes: don't feed the trolls. And yes, I'm guilty of that too, but you don't really expect to find trolls on a civilised site like this so tend to treat posters as decent people by default.
