Agreed on the interesting eclectic sound here, but this song is certainly not representative of their better work... 5.

Does a contentious prorogation count as a constitutional crisis?  I think so, but the government doesn't seem to.

Interesting comment.

It wasn't that long ago that we Canucks wanted to be like the US when we grew up.  Now we watch from north of the 49th and hope you guys get your act back together.

No matter, though —- your town Austin is one of the coolest places, figuratively at least, that I've ever visited.

Actually, when no one's watching, the fur IS flying all day!

The rule of thumb is that all Canadians love Canada but no one loves Quebec, Ontario (esp. Toronto and Ottawa), Alberta, anyone who lives in those areas or has spent any time there, natives with a land claim, any level of government or authority, or anyone who is successful while being famous (famous & poor = indy, so that's alright). Not necessarily in that order.

We all like a good beer, though.  I've learned that's the secret to diffusing any potentially contentious situation. If the UN served beer, the World would be a safer place.

Pleasant enough but this band is something that you would expect on MOR radio.  Not really a Canadian embarrassment but nothing to brag about.  Joni, Neil and Daniel Langois, yes, we can brag about them.  And we do!

I agree with many of the comments below. Somewhere after Rock Spectacle, BNL lost it. No more fire, edge, or uniqueness. Can't listen to them anymore. Dull, dead music.

But really, Rush? How can you be embarrassed by Rush? Anything pre-Hold Your Fire is brilliant.

Well, I'll agree that I don't quite understand the appeal of this band but I think your political analysis is wrong.  These days Quebec residents do not want to 'emigrate'; Alberta residents want to 'emigrate'.

Albertans are worried sick that this looming battle against carbon emissions and global warming might diminsh their status as those privileged few among the world's highest per capita energy users.

As for Steve's behavior... yeah he is alone in the music business in partaking in that kind of behavior...ooohh my god that is so shocking!!!! Wrong place at the wrong time, it doesn't dimishish their accomplishments or their talent.

And as for your "residents of Qubec comment", I'm originally from Nova Scotia 9th generation (that's over 200 hundred years for small minded people like you) a die hard federalist and I live in Quebec by choice, so you can stick your anti-Quebec rhetoric where the sun don't shine!

I saw them when they were nobodies, just starting out (still slinging their latest casette {#Eyes}). They were warming up for the the Rheostatics at a small club in Ottawa (around 1992). They were fantastic! They had the whole place on their feet cheering, dancing, laughing. They were simply amazing. When do you see the warm up band being called back for an encore? Then the Rheostatics came on. A real downer by comparison (they are a good band, just not to follow the Ladies) and half the crowd left.

Since then they have gone on to become the "stars" they are now. They are one of the hardest working bands out there and stayed together through one of their members fighting cancer. They are unapologetically Canadian in the content of many of their songs and videos. They are great ambassadors for Canada, combining two of our greatest entertainment exports, music and humour. So if they make you embarrassed to be a Canadian, maybe it is time for you to emigrate! {#Razz}  {#Beat}

I'm torn. I've met them and they are really nice and down-to-earth guys (not to mention funny as all hell), but their recent efforts I no like so much. Lacks the energy and sense of fun that Gordon had.

Their tour schedule was insane: maybe 5-6 hours of sleep on a tour bus, then interviews and fan events until the show; repeat for 6-8 months. A few years of that will kill the spirit of just about anyone.
