All the things that I needed
I wasted my chances
I have found myself wanting
When my mother and father
Gave me their problems
I accepted them all
Nothing ever expected
I was rejected
But I came back for more
And my ashes drift beneath the silver sky
Where a boy rides on a bike but never smiles
And my ashes fall on all the things we said
On a box of photographs under the bed, the bed
I will stay in my own world
Under the covers
I will feel safe inside
A kiss that will burn me
And cure me of dreaming
I was always returning
And my ashes find a way beyond the fog
And return to save the child that I forgot
And my ashes fade among the things unseen
And a dream plays in reverse on piano keys
And my ashes drop upon a park in Wales
Never ending clouds of rain and distant sails, distant sails
Sails, sails

Cheers to RP! |

Glad everybody is enjoying the tune. Workaholic Steven Wilson is the renaissance man of my generation even if he is a decade or so younger. |

| mapman (East Coast USA) | Posted: Mar 22, 2011 - 13:47 I love that I can hear stuff like this on RP! Definitely a dark and bleak album by PT. Reminds me of "The Wall" by Pink Floyd in that regard. Or Mahler's 3rd symphony perhaps. Not very cheery or for the weak of heart! Also one filled with lots of good music, if you can stand to make it through. An instrumental only version might broaden the appeal. ![]() |

Steven is now working on a solo project with the lead singer/guitarist of Opeth, Mikael Akerfeldt. No set time of release. Nature of having time to work on things. If you can get past the growling voices of current heavy metal, bands like Opeth, Katatonia, and Swallow the Sun are full of instrumental experimentation. It's the genre of my son and now he's turning me onto bands as opposed to the other way around. ![]() |

Steven Wilson (lead singer of Porcupine Tree) has produced two of Opeth albums, played keyboards on one of their albums and is very good friends with the band. He also speaks highly of Katatonia and Orphaned Land, two very influential metal bands. Seen all these bands except Opeth (sigh) and they all are very good in concert. Welcome to RP, land of musical expansion!!! |

Welcome to RP, land of musical expansion!!! Metal and Progressive Rock are oddly connected. I suppose it's because of the experimentation and good musicianship. Both genres push boundaries and frankly show off |

| westslope (BC coast) | Posted: Aug 30, 2010 - 16:07 I wouldn't call it dreary. The subjects that are raised and occasionally critiqued are dreary but not the music.
PT music is sometimes plodding. And plodding in interesting, original and highly melodic ways. |

The dreariness is one of the best things about this band. Almost anyone can become a reasonably accomplished musician, it's not as difficult as people think, but being successfully dreary is a gift. |
