They are so terrific! Would you believe, they couldn't get a company to sign them? Better for them, they formed their own company and make the music that they want to make.

Saw them in person, and they were fantastic, and the little old lady that opened for them was amazing.

What a great track from such an amazing modern artist. Nobody sounds like this anymore, you gotta hand it to Sharon Jones for holding true to a solid sound in today's autotune-drenched, music environment.

Great Stuff!

My wife and I saw Sharon and the Dap Kings last summer; great show, tight band, and very high energy and vocals from Miss Sharon.

This is an excellent CD and her most recent one, that came out last year, is also very good (can't remember the name of it offhand, "The Hard Way," maybe....)

Yeah...  that was a good idea.  Marry an emotional chick with a degree in communication.  That way, even if I do win the argument, I still lose...  Ah well, she's worth it.

Terrific classic soul - driving backbeat, brassy voice, melancholy lyrics. What's not to like? 8 from the Nottingham jury.

I was wrong—actually had bad information. Yes, Daptone is in Brooklyn—I've since acquired all their releases. Very cool stuff. Winehouse used their studio to record Back to Black because, if I recall, the studio's entirely analog and renders that warm, fuzzy '60s sound. Thanks for pointing out the errors.

Also, the Dap-tones featured prominently on that "Back to Black" album, as well as on Marc Ronson's "Version", etc.
Many artists want to bask in their Dap-dippin' coolness

Sharon Jones appeared on SNL with Michael Buble. When I first heard they were on together I thought WTF, but they cooked pretty well together. Sharon Jones is the real deal, baby.

I don't know what's been rejected on LRC, but one of my favourites is "How Do You Let a Good Man Down?" from "Naturally".
Great vocals to very funky/soul music. A very tight-playing band, with echoes from Stevie Wonder, Fela Kuti, and perhaps some James Brown. Fan-tas-tic tune.

Yeah don't listen to that Excelsior guy, everybody else here is learning not to, he's a waste of everybody's bandwidth! Nothing better to do than hang out on internet forums slagging bands and the station off, presumably trying to get a rise out of their fans.

I agree, Sharon Jones and her band are wonderful live and when I saw them the entire set was solid and fantastic to dance to.

Caught Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings live last week... they tore it up in impressive fashion. She is a little firecracker up there, and incredibly interactive with the crowd - bringing fans up to sing with her on multiple occasions. The band was huge and very very good.

Catch them live if you can!

Oh, and she was super friendly after the show signing CD's and the very fitting Vinyl LP's they were selling there. Had to pick it up for a spin on the ol' record player.
