So here's my question, do you know how right you are? For example, did you know that she put out an album well before "Jagged Little Pill" that was really, terribly poppy and exploitative and just generally bad? And that before that she was a "star" on a tween comedy show in Canada? I don't know if her management took advantage of her the way you're thinking (she was probably managed by her parents in the earlier parts of her career) but there's no question her talent's been exploited.

sheesh, rough crowd here!! When Loreena McKennitt re-invents her sound (for every album) she's praised, but when Alanis does it, she gets no love at all!!

Certainly a change for Alanis...but c'mon - still WAY more mature than her early stuff!! Anyone remember her first pop album? This rises WAY above!!

Can't get past her whiny vocal tone. I don't care how much of a departure it is for her. Her voice is less enjoyable than a razor blade on frosted glass.

Yeah, its a little on the produced side... but this is the first track off this album that sounds like the instrumental part and the singing are for the same song (IMHO).

I like it as well - it's a different sound for her, and I'm not typically a big fan of her music, but I always have an open mind to new music.

So very, very bad. Somebody team this woman up with a decent writer/producer! She's been on a slow, steady decline since her CD with Glen Ballard. This track is so contrived, already dated production-wise and god awful!

I think what really kills it is the production. It's so perfectly polished that each part loses it character. It ends up goulash. I also think she's borrowed a little too much from her time in India. Works for Loreena McKennitt, not for her.

Met her at a an MCA gathering in 1992 for the "Alanis" release. A little bar across from Mewatta Stadium in Calgary. She was 17 I think, about to turn 18. Prior to introductions, the music rep threatened to kill me if I looked sideways at her. I wondered why until I saw her.

I remember feeling an incredible sense that this person was a great deal older than the vessel in which she was contained. She has great eyes.

It gets a 9 from me for those eyes.
