Crash on the levee, mama,
Water's gonna overflow,
Swamp's gonna rise,
No boat's gonna row.
Now, you can train on down
To Williams Point,
You can bust your feet,
You can rock this joint.
But oh mama, ain't you gonna miss your best friend now?
You're gonna have to find yourself
Another best friend, somehow.
Now, don't you try an' move me,
You're just gonna lose.
There's a crash on the levee
And, mama, you've been refused.
Well, it's sugar for sugar
And salt for salt,
If you go down in the flood,
It's gonna be your own fault.
Oh mama, ain't you gonna miss your best friend now?
You're gonna have to find yourself
Another best friend, somehow.
Well, that high tide's risin',
Mama, don't you let me down.
Pack up your suitcase,
Mama, don't you make a sound.
Now, it's king for king,
Queen for queen,
It's gonna be the meanest flood
That anybody's seen.
Oh mama, ain't you gonna miss your best friend now?
Yes, you're gonna have to find yourself
Another best friend, somehow.

Lynyrd Skynyrd were like the loud mouthed, mean spirited, gleefully ignorant, toothless rednecks that sat at the back of the bus and hassled everyone. I'm probably spelling Lynyrd Skynyrd wrong- but they're not worth the 2 seconds it would take to Google them to check. I agree eerily...i did not want to think of Lynyrd in such a negative way...but i surely am channeling Duane Allman from 40 years ago |

| calypsus_1 (East of Eden) | Posted: Aug 10, 2012 - 10:03 Still on the "new" band that includes the couple-Trucks and various elements of the previous two bands. This is only my personal point of view: meditating on the subject I think the right thing, not to assume the preponderance of any member of the couple when the "new" band is mentioned, the ideal, that would be: "Derek & Tedeschi Trucks Band". Perfect. Another aspect, not least importante, is that Susan, assuming the role of lead singer almost exclusively. This could, in my view, not always produce the best results. Because the musical genres, mainly blues rock, southern rock, in certain circumstances and in certain types of songs, be more appropriate to use a male voice, or duet. Yes, that's right, the voice of Mike Mattison, who incidentally had an extraordinary performance as a lead-vocalist and songwriter in the former Derek Trucks Band. It is true that Susan Tedeschi has a great voice, I like the style, she rocks (most notably in the melodic lower registers, with high peaks at the end of the verses), but usually sings in a register very high effort creased, which in many cases can affect the overall result that requires a deeper voice. It also should be given more leeway to Mike Mattison, who is an excellent songwriter ("Midnight in Harlem"), in addition to being an extraordinary vocalist. It's a challenge having to manage a band, both over-prominence, first a virtuoso guitarist, and the other an exceptional vocalist. The secret is in the balance, I think. Excess of leadership and vanity (though legitimate) can be counterproductive and disastrous. I also agree that a young and beautiful lady, mini-skirt (second youth?) is always well ahead in a rock band when they perform live on stage. In work done in the studio, this is irrelevant. Just musicians. Period. To avoid seeing the "new" band to have to resort systematically to "covers" adapted from famous songs, but of other artists. As I said, the secret, the main asset, is being able to create value-added in original songs that endures in history. Create immortal songs - is the supreme art of the musician - It's hard. In addition to good performance when working on live stage, but that alone is not sufficient in terms of lasting and prestigious career. ~calypsus_1 |
