bam23 (Berkeley) | Posted: Apr 24, 2013 - 21:08 I like the driving pulsing sound of many Doves pieces. Maybe not the finest music on the planet, but at times they seem to really be operating at a high level. Even when I can't figure out the lyrics (or have no interest in doing so), the music is compelling. Maybe that's as complicated as it needs to be?

Not fair. Defend the song but there's no reason to attack each other. It's become too common to take this approach
"I don't like it." "Then you're an idiot."
Let's talk about the music instead of turning it personal.

SledDawg (High Bridge, NJ, USA) | Posted: May 05, 2009 - 10:39 I love this record. I think it's way better than "Coldplay with guitars", which some have said. It's much darker than that.
Anyway, a great record... hope it does well. How will they reproduce it live though? Much as I like it (maybe this is why I like it...) I have to say that this Doves album reminds me greatly of criminally-neglected 90s bandSwervedriver http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swervedriver#2008_Reunion
This Doves album could practically be a long-lost unreleased Swervedriver LP.
Swervedriver just reunited at Coachella, and their long-out-of-print CDs are being reissued. "Raise" is one of the great records of the 90s.

rcurrier (San Juan Capistrano, CA) | Posted: Apr 12, 2009 - 12:36 What a concept: make sure the low-bitrate MP3 rips of your music sound just like the original by making the original sound like a low-bitrate MP3 rip.
The quality comes through—I do like it—but I tremble at the thought of hearing all the bands who will attempt to steal their sound.
