Here's the thing.

How the fug did they manage to slip in and out of waltz time so seamlessly?

It should be jarring.

Damn the Beatles.

Damn their clever little souls.

This was there very best album:  maximum quality of music, minimum associated star turning and general madness.  Gave this tune a 9.  Most of the cuts on "Revolver" were 9+.

Well illustrated.  I think an analogy, if you know basketball history, is almost everyone acknowledges Michael Jordan was the best player ever.

There were many other great players - many of whom could well be the favorite of a given fan - but Michael stands above them all.

Very very few maybe less than any other serious artists (pop commercial high selling crap excluded of course). A true sign of greatness.

Maybe not a better ALBUM than Sgt. Pepper, but surely their voices and grooves were at their peak.

Great song, great album!! This album elevates with me as time goes on, it may even ending up surpassing Abbey Road as my favorite Beatle album, not quite yet. 10 of course.

Peter Fonda was describing his experience of accidentally shooting himself in the stomach in the year after his mom committed suicide. Reading Jane Fonda's bio right now and she says Peter was declared DOA (his heart had stopped) so he literally knew what it was like to be dead.
(He also showed the Beatles his scar, at that party, yeah, maybe not the coolest thing: he was harshing their mellow. )
So far, in Jane's book, you have to admire Peter, because all around him was denial of the bad things happening in their family and he was always expressive of his emotions. He had a good sense of himself in the face of denial of emotions.
British stereotypically don't like that kind of expression; and while it is a lot to ask for people to be "cool" while on 300 micrograms of acid  perhaps someone could have been  a tad more sensitive to the situation? I don't know, it's probably a lot to ask at a wild Hollywood party.
Oh well, a good song came out of it.

Thanks for the tip jagdriver. Great story from John.  I wonder if there was ever a support group for what happened to Lennon. "The Southern California Chapter of People who have been Harassed by Peter Fonda" perhaps? Or the SCCPHPF.

Maybe not, but they massively expanded the boundaries of what we understood pop music to be at that time, opening the doors for everyone in the world to become involved in pop music if they had the desire.
By infusing at times classical, blues, jazz, flamenco, country & western, Indian sitar, synthesizer and even vocal sampling elements into their songs, what popular musical artist today does not owe them a debt of gratitude?
