Interesting take on this situation. Is it LC's fault that he is so widely liked/loved? Does that mean his music is not valuable?
I can understand that you could get tired of hearing him everywhere, but not the conclusion that he is everywhere due to 'hype.' ???

I know that Cohen's style of singing can be a little droll.....but you gotta admit the lyrics just knock it out of the park!

Yes I'm inclined to come alongside you fredriley as all my life I could not abide him, droll derges but this past 6 months I have begun to tolerate him and to date I am now listening and starting to enjoy him, perhaps its time that has allowed him to grow on me be it 40 plus years,  that many years ago a friend of mine known as 'Gypsy Jeff' was an ardent fan buying every album on release and I could never understand what he saw in Cohen, but I am now begining to understand Jeffs appreciation. Maybe I ought to look him up if he is still alive and kicking.

Had to choose between seeing Leonard Cohen and Neil Young two weekends ago, brutal decision to make.  Went to see Neil.  Who da thunk it - a sextagenarian and a septuagenarian still generating new stuff.

So I've always sort of known about Leonard Cohen, heard his songs in the background without really listening, that kind of thing. Last Sat. night, a friend of mine who is really into him took me to a show here in Colorado and I am definitely a convert now. Holy crap, it was amazing! What really got me was that I had always assumed he was just a words guy, lyrics and poetry. What totally blew me away, along with the words, was how great the music and arrangements were-incredible. Oh, and a 3 1/2 hour set. Yep, I'm a convert...

I think we need to get Mr. Cohen singing with Bohren & Der Club of Gore.  Now that would be a Halloween worthy combo!

I have been trying to come up with a musical theory of eveything.  I am trying to fit it into a mathematical equation like e=MC squared.  Basically, if you can quickly and easily identify what style of music it is, or find accurate comparisons with other performers, then it is crap. The great ones have no style.  Did I really just say that?  {#Foot-in-mouth}

I enjoy the creative lyrics of the two great rock poets Dylan and Cohen.

But neither artist is the one to turn to for creative musical structures - chord progressios, rhythms, melodies, tempos etc.

Just imagine this track accompanied by lyrics provided by some schlocky top 40 popmeister.

There are only three "artists" on RP I seriously switch off:

PINK FLOYD (the bad side of the 70's)

TALKING HEADS (voice is a nightmare)

LEONARD COHEN ("HATE-HATE-HATE")
