You don't get it? Listen to Ohio by CSNY. Those four students were demonstrators killed by overzealous National Guardsmen.

It's OK, thanks. I'm fascinated by it. I have been looking at it for quite a while, which speaks to it telling a tale. Trying to figure out if it has one central message or it's one of those things where each person sees something different.  I like the mixed perspectives and how well they are contrasted with the art work. The Archie comic-like bold colors and "Father Knows Best" world contrasted with the Che Guevara poster in a disheveled apartment with the "counter culture" Gary and then the flashback to the Gary in Chuck Taylors watching TV at his parents house, presumably 9 years earlier.  Two different worlds. The TV announcer saying, "... where administration officials have confirmed that four students…", I have to think that is statement of foreshadowing to 1970.

This is a beautiful song... downright poetic—

"Idle Tales"

Whether it starts with an earthquake
Or the tears of a few grieving women
I don't know

On the road to gathering
Looking for someone to roll away the stone
He stands alone in her room
As the commotion slowly decays
I don't know
She's on her way to somewhere new
Looking for someone to roll away the stone

It's these idle tales that we need to keep us moving
These tales keep us going
It's these idle tales that we need to tell our children
These tales are for our children

She stands upon an empty stage with a song she was born to sing
She's on the road again

It's these idle tales that we need to keep us moving
These tales to keep us going
It's these idle tales that we need to tell our children
These tales are for our children
Whether it starts with an earthquake
Or the tears of a few grieving women

Saw this band for the first time a couple of weeks ago...had kicked myself for not seeing them at a local pub up in Albany, NY about 25 years ago while I was a student, and before they got (relatively) big.  It was a very good show/performance in a small theater of about 500, although I admittedly did feel myself nodding off at points.  Even Margo joked about the "depressing" themes throughout many of their songs.

They are always interesting with a layered blusey sound and Margo's smooth voice, generally with a little hope in the sadness she is singing about.  While Margo gets the most attention, the complexity of the music behind her is what attracts me.  My wife, just loves them, no analysis needed!!!  Maybe she has something more right than I do.
