On all music guide they break it down pretty well for you here, with a history of the genre, pioneering artists, etc.  And at the bottom of the page they list out who they feel are the Top Artists, Top Albums & Top Songs (though some of their choices I would not agree fall into the Trip Hop genre).  My recommendations are:  Massive Attack, Portishead, Morcheeba and Thievery Corporation.  The K & D Sessions (by dj's Kruder & Dorfmeister) is definitely a seminal work not to be missed.  Waldeck is a great band/artist that really captures the sound well too.

True-that — TRIP HOP people!  It is quite different than hip-hop or rap.  In my opinion, it is degrading to the Trip Hop genre to call it a "sub-genre".

I've always heard Morcheeba described more as "Down-Tempo" or "Lounge/Exotica".  I guess they're all just arbitrary labels anyhow.  It's good music no matter what it's labeled as.

Hip hop should be used very, very loosely in Morcheeba's case. If you want good hip hop, look no further than Mos Def's "Black on Both Sides." But calling Morcheeba hip hop is like calling Smashing Pumpkins a goth band. ...as in, it's a stretch.

As for this song, it's a winner. 8/10
