I'm taking a ride with my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again
He knows where he's taking me
Taking me where I want to be
I'm taking a ride with my best friend
We're flying high
We're watching the world pass us by
Never want to come down
Never want to put my feet back down on the ground
I'm taking a ride with my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again
Promises me I'm as safe as houses
As long as I remember who's wearing the trousers
I hope he never lets me down again
We're flying high
We're watching the world pass us by
Never want to come down
Never want to put my feet back down on the ground
We're flying high
We're watching the world pass us by
Never want to come down
Never want to put my feet back down on the ground
Never let me down
Never let me down
Never let me down
Never let me down
Never let me down (see the stars, they're shining bright)
Never let me down (everything's alright tonight)
Never let me down (see the stars, they're shining bright)
Never let me down (everything's alright tonight)
Never let me down (see the stars, they're shining bright)
Never let me down (everything's alright tonight)
Never let me down (see the stars, they're shining bright)
Never let me down (everything's alright tonight)

Or that something is crap, as in 'Depeche Mode are pants' Clearly that isn't true. In actual fact, saying something is 'pants' may be an Americanism, it's hard to tell these days, over here in the 51st state. |

| ziakut (Slightly North of Obvlivion) | Posted: Dec 11, 2012 - 06:15 This album lacks the dynamic emotion and atmosphere of DM's previous 'Black Celebration'. I took the this title as the moniker after this album. |

| slate_dk (Denmark) | Posted: May 04, 2012 - 13:27 Still golden.... DM recorded Music for the Masses in the Puk studio outside Randers, Denmark back in 87. Went to their concert that fall in Copenhagen. Nitzer Ebb did the warm up..... my hearing did not recover until late afternoon the following day. |

The homoerotic imagery I'd expect from someone like Morrissey, not Dave Gahan who's always struck me as hetero, though a heavily agonised and guilt-ridden hetero. Just after writing that, I had a look on the song meanings link, and found the following possibly insightful post: this is just a shot in the dark, but this song was written in the 80s when DM were heavy into the whole drug scene. i think that "he" may be the drug itself, and Gahan is saying how euphoric it is to be having this experience (Anyone know why the feck the 'quote' in the HTML editor isn't working? ) Also keep in mind that it was usually Gore who wrote the lyrics. I always thought that Gore was probably hetero (and deeply kinky, if "Master and Servant" is any indicator), given that he had a rather long common law relationship with a woman. Apparently, though, the boys have started making out together onstage at concerts. Whether that's outright closet-vacating, some much-delayed bi-curiosity or a cynical play to gain a younger listenership will have to be left as an exercise to the reader. And I've heard from other (not at all reliable) sources that "he" in the case of this song is heroin. |
| bokey (Left of Centerfield) | Posted: Oct 25, 2011 - 11:16 I'm glad I worked like a crazed dog during the '80's.Those 14 hour days caused me to miss most of the music. |

I was just musing on the same thing. Bill's penchant for '80s British synth pop (well, okay The Clash wasn't pop much less the synth variety) keeps things interesting. What we need is Flock of Seagulls and Mike Store's runaway hair. |

| marci28 (Boston, MA) | Posted: Jun 21, 2011 - 10:45 Wow, you must play Poe-Control before this track fairly frequently, because as Control came to a close, I heard the start of Never Let Me Down Again in my head before it actually started on Radio Paradise. Just struck me as pretty funny & I had to comment! |

It's funny how our tastes change with age. There are a lot of 80's bands that I HATED back then, and love now (Guns&Roses, Bon Jovi, and definitely Depeche Mode.) |

| kingfish2004 (That GREAT country of Texas!) | Posted: Nov 29, 2009 - 09:32 Loved the CD when it came out. The wildest most surreal experience I had was with this CD. I was driving into Dallas to see my girlfriend, it was late at night and a huge storm was blowing in, there is a point on the drive where I could "look down" on the city and as I was reaching this point the storm hit. I watched the city just disappear in front of me and just get very VERY dark. It was just SO wild seeing this and thinking something just removed the entire city of Dallas from the planet with this song playing |
