| Lonneke (St. Honoré-les-Bains) | Posted: May 19, 2013 - 01:52 Really nice you place this number from Doe Maar ! A dutch listener who lives in France. |
| ambrebalte (Beijing most of the time - Wolxheim in France now) | Posted: Jan 13, 2013 - 14:39 Why the "Skunk" title under the no-cover cover? A bit surrealist, belli donni (Bill and Rebecca) Editing : Oh...I understand. Clicking on the title instead of clicking on the Album's name. Doing this just leads to Amazon page, doing that explains it all. Well, I'll have to give it a second chance. Not convinced by the first listening |
| Blackbirds (Netherlands) | Posted: Aug 09, 2012 - 11:12 Doe Maar!!!! Early stuff OK, I was more into Het Goede Doel though (loosely translated as Charity). Oh I love RP! |
| vanmas (Leiden, Netherlands) | Posted: Jun 07, 2012 - 07:25 This is why I like RP so much! To hear Doe Maar over here! My favorite Dutch band of all times! Thanks Bill! |
| Dinges,_the_Dude (below sea-level, N52°37', E4°88') | Posted: Jun 07, 2012 - 07:23 I'm going to see them playing in Fall this year, although I never was a fan in the '80s. Now I like them for the sake of old times ;-) |

If you type "Doe maar", you get "Do it" which sounds reasonable. But if you type "Doe Maar", you get "Neil Young"! I think somebody's playing with my brain. "doe maar" is a typical Dutch expression for which there is no real good English translation. "doe" means "do" and "maar" can mean "whatever". If somebody suggests they will do something and you don't really mind you would say "doe maar" as a motivation without getting personally involved. It's a great name a for a ska band from the early punk era. |

I may be in the minority, but that doesn't seem to be a problem to me. Granted, I might miss some portion of the nuance, but as long as the musicianship is at least as important as the lyrical content... Heck, there's lots of music that's ostensibly in English that I don't understand the lyrics and yet love ;) Interesting comment. As far as I know Bella Donna is instrumental. And the language of music, everyone speaks. jk |
